Those of you watching the game, please keep us updated. GT runs delayed.
Listen to it on Hornetsports.

Thanks, but since I can't watch the Sac St game live. I'm watching the CP vs NAU game live. I'm rooting for a CP victory to help out the hornets w/ playoff chances.
Should probably be more worried about getting the win here, but that is just my $0.02. A loss guarantees us no playoffs.

I'm definitely more worry about Sac St getting the win than the game I'm watching. But it sucks that's it's not being televised outside of the Capital area market.
I have no idea why this is not on BSTV.

Carter dropped a TD. Hornets missed a FG. Special teams blows another one. 23-20 6:23 left in the 3rd.

Did the refs blow that call? Wish I could see this one. Announcers are saying it was a TD catch. God I wish I could see this one.

it was definitely a TD. He dropped it after catching it and completely rolling out of the back of the end zone. Blown call.

Ouch.

Hornet D hold again in the redzone. 26-20 Hornets trail with 2:08 left in the 3rd.

End of 3rd. Hornets driving. Need points here.

2nd and goal on the 2 for the Hornets. Another great drive. Need to cash this one in. TD Hornets. Graham punches it in out of the goal line set. Huge PAT coming up. 27-26 Hornet lead with 13:25 left. Another barn burner. My drunken heart cannot take this kind of stress.

INT Markell Williams!!!!!! Hornets with great field position. Hornets give it back on a reverse pass. WTF was up with that play call. WHY!!! INT. Wow, the Hornets do not want to win this one.

1st and goal farm extension. That reverse pass gave this game away. TD. 32-27 pending the PAT. 2 pt conversion is good. 34-27. Hornets gave this one away. Killing them all game with the regular plays and then a stupid trick play that wasn't even needed. Every Causeway the Hornets find a new way to lose.

These trick plays need to stop. Really ruining the game.
It cost us this one, no doubt about it.

Hornets go 3 and out. That should be it.

Hornet ball, 3 mins left. They have all 3 TO's. Anything less than TD here is game over. It has started to rain.

INT on a 4th and 3. Game over.

Final, 34-27 Hornets lose. Hats of the farm extension, they took advantage of the Hornet mistakes and that was the difference in the game. Having said that, the Hornet coaches should be ashamed of themselves. Coming off a bye and having the special teams gave away about 17 points is inexcusable. That is all on DePrado, clearly he did not have his units working on fundamentals such as catching punts and kick coverage. Also all the cute trick plays that were completely useless was a huge killer. The Hornets finally battle back to overcome the early mistakes and Peterson calls a WR reverse pass. I can’t think of a more idiotic play call than that given the situation. The game was given away on that play.

I’ll end my rant with a congrats to Coach Biggs. He always had his team ready for this rivalry and almost always out coached his opposition. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Total domination by Coach Biggs, 16 and 4, over the Hornets. Too bad we acted like one of Volek's undisciplined teams with unnecessary taunting/celebrations. When will football players learn that you should "win" the game first before you start acting like a fool; embarrassing really........

as much as i hate the result of the game i have to say congratulations to Coach Biggs. I have met and talked with the man several times and he is truly a great guy and really cares for his players. Nothing fake about that man. Something i unfortunately cant say about our own coaches.

Awful game for the Hornets. There were some bad calls made but Hornets made to many mistakes to win. Time to start working on next year. We have a young team that I hope learned from this season. Looking forward to next year.

I only got to see the last few minutes of the third quarter until the end, but I came away rather frustrated at both play-calling and execution.

1. We had NO business calling that receiver option pass at that point in the game. We should have run something like toss sweep to bleed clock. And IF you run that play, SOMEONE had better get hold of the guy and tell him that if the quarterback is double covered, you had BETTER tuck the ball and run for the stinking first down!

2. The defense was Swiss cheese in the fourth quarter. We've got to look at that during the off-season. The last several games in particular, I was NOT impressed with the play of Odiase, who at times looked like Deion Sanders in avoiding contact.

3. Safron put that last ball in the mike backer's chest as that were where he wanted it to go. I'm sure he didn't really want to do that; he's got to be more aware of where the defenders are relative to his receivers.

4. I'd love to know why Sperbeck decided to dismiss the mike backer's time out call at 1:20 left in the game, and THEN decided to start calling time outs at :24. If you've given up on the game, you've given up on the game. Just get out of there. OR accept the time out and try to force a punt with about :45 left.

We've made some major strides this year, but now our expectations are higher. We had better make the playoffs next year, or heads are going to roll, as they did at Lodi High last night when the head coach of 15 years was summarily dismissed in the dead of night. I'm sure Wanless will have more class if and when he fires Sperbeck, but you never know....

These games against Davis really piss me off. The Hornets players and their coaching staff always seem to go in to full idiot mode and the Aggies get every single break to make things worse.

The Hornets had the better team 2 years ago but a monsoon was the great equalizer in that one. The Hornets clearly had the better team this season as evidenced by their records but don't have a monsoon to blame for their woes this time around.

The Aggies first 26 points were all scored on Special teams. That tells you all you need to know about this one. Their offense scored ONE TD and was badly out gained all game. Like always, the Aggies simply let the Hornets and their coaches beat themselves. That's really what these games the past few years have come down to.... Sac State beating themselves. Why should tonight be any different considering it was Biggs last game? I really believe the guy is a snake charmer that is easily able to hypnotize the Hornets and their coaches into full on stupidity.

Aside from the inept coaching staff's braindead decision to run a trick play after you've just regained momentum and are badly out-gaining your opponent 3 to 1, I place the brunt of this loss on one of my favorite Hornet players ... Morris Norrisse. If he didn't play in this game, the Hornets win easily.

He had absolutely no business trying to field that punt after it got over his head and he especially had no business trying to recover the ball while on the full run and while retreating to his own end zone. Just fall on the damn ball.

If that wasn't bad enough, what in the world is Norisse thinking on that ridiculous trick play that went bust? While the Hornets staff should be villified for calling that play in the first place, Norisse has got to understand the situation and not throw the ball.

Once the play broke down and the element of surprise was gone, you don't throw a jump ball to your QB of all people while he's double covered. I've never been a proponent of running a play in which a non-QB is counted upon to throw a pass. They ALWAYS think they have to throw the ball even when the play isn't there. Even if you coach them to throw the ball away or tuck it and run if the play doesn't develop, they rarely ever get the opportunity to run the play in a real game so they go all hero mode and still try to make the play. This is exactly what happened tonight.

Again, neither play occurred due to anything the Aggies did. They were both self inflicted wounds that were 100% avoidable. The first play resulted in 8 points for UCD. The second killed an opporunity to increase the lead and possibly put the game away.

Lastly, I will give Bob Biggs a ton of credit. He always manages to out coach whomever is manning the Hornets sidelines and has consistently beaten Sac State in instances when he has less talent. I, for one, am really glad to see him go.

Time for Sperbeck to go. Another 6-5 season, zero net improvement, and an embarassing loss to UC Dorkass to boot - coming off a by where you would assume the guys were rested and studying film. I don't care what anybody says. Davis sucked this year and this was a must win. What do we do? We come to a "very winnable / must win" with a "big ass choke." What the hell was the team doing the last two weeks? Might as well start the debate now. Does anyone see any real improvement under this guy? 6-5 and an embarassing loss sums it up here.

I see LOADS of improvement over Mooshagian. That said, we HAVE plateaued. It could be time for a switch, but maybe not.

Well, an argument could be made that perhaps 75% of those breaks come from the "idiot mode" you aptly describe. Twenty percent could be laid on poor officiating. That leaves 5% of breaks from truly good play on the part of the Aggies because they haven't had much of that the last few seasons despite having good coaching. In that sense, they're sort of like the '60s Green Bay Packers with a losing record: don't give them a gift, because they will surely take advantage of it....

I couldn't agree more. As Bill Parcells once said, "you are what your record says you are". UCD was 3-7 coming in and not a very good team. The Hornets not only needed to win, they should have won. There really is no excuse for all the mental mistakes in such a meaningful game. They were the better team all season as evidenced by records. But, as you correctly stated, they just choked.

If things had been reversed and Davis had out-gained the Hornets by 160 yards and won the TOP, I wouldn't be so quick to call it a choke. But not only were they the better team coming in, they played better offensively and defensively tonight but lost due to a couple braindead decisions and poor special teams play.

Now the Hornets are what there record says they are ... An average team that's failed to qualify for the playoffs yet again.

Answer something for me honestly, Buckeye...

Would you rather see us have a shot at the playoffs and choke it away in the last two weeks or be close to the Big Sky caboose? I think that's what we've seen in the last three coaches: a guy who got us to the cusp, a guy who destroyed it, and a guy who's rebuilt it to the cusp. Maybe Sperbeck can get us over the hump, and maybe he can't. But based on what we had immediately before him, IMO we canNOT say that Sperbeck stinks....

:+1:

Like the rest of the hornet swarm, I'm disappointed. The fact that we finished with a winning record of 6-5 helps a little, but very little. It's a good sign to have this record after only having Petersen as OC for only one season. I'm looking forward to next season.

I hate the ewe-see schools! I can't believe that the two I really wanted to lose, won!? I wish they were as bad as ewe-see-dorkeley.

All fans would prefer to be a playoff contender than an also-ran. If your strictly making a comparison to past regimes, of course Sperbeck has been an improvement and would be the preferrable option. A hot dog is more fulfilling than a saltine cracker, but when your really craving a steak, both seem woefully insufficient.

This program hasn't earned a postseason birth in well over 20 years. Because of that, I think many have set their expectations far lower than they should be. While I agree that the last couple seasons have been far more fun to watch than the Moosh era, it still isn't good enough. As I stated in another thread, I'm on board with Sperbeck getting another year but, if there's no improvement, I think it's time to seriously think about going in another direction.
