Week 12: Causeway

I was unable to watch the game but was getting the updates on my phone...thank God I didn't have to sit through that one. Nice embarrassing ending to an embarrassing season. Looks like the offense didn't show up until the 2nd half, and the defense...well they no-showed...again...shocker.

Congrats to the ags. They whooped the Hornets good.

Offense didn't show at all. First score short field with defense forcing an aggie fumble. 2nd score was a blocked punt scoop and score. Third score was a drive. Then sac got the onside kick and could not get in the end zone. No show offense

Next year is going to be painful, for as "young" as this team is, 35% of its offensive starts were by seniors and 30% on the defensive side by seniors. And special teams loses everyone. Next year the "we're young" excuse will actually hold some water. Buckle up folks, this is going to be a bumpy ride.

Seniors on Offense
Agude and Harrison- yeah this sucks
Viveiros see ya later Hanson big loss
Everyone else returns

Defense
Sankey Big Loss
Armstrong barley played this year anyway
Mazza - ok player
Nonu - missed a lot of game anyway

Cornish- crappy year Mediros comes back big leg, missed 2 53 yard FG
Heath- finally had a good year hard to replace
Lathem- will need to have long snapper. Have some in team currently

Being a young team is not a bad thing, being a young and inexperienced team is.

I expect next year's team to be more experienced, and successful.

I don't know if was the coaches, players or a combination but we were not prepared to play yesterday.
Both the offense and defense had no rhythm and looked flat footed. That was the worst effort I have seen all season.
The dungpilers had a good game plan and we didn't adjust to it. Gould and company looked like they were playing for their jobs, we looked like we just wanted to get the season over with.

As a fan I really don't care if we finish 3-8 or 2-9 both are unacceptable in a competitive activity. I do feel bad for Darnell and the rest of the seniors finishing their college career like this, they deserved far more.

A win yesterday might have been a feel good moment, but it really wouldn't have meant much as a yardstick for the season/ program.

I expected some fall off from last year's 7-4 team when Safron, Carter etc. graduated. I certainly wasn't prepared for the team to win only one D1 game all season.
Hard to believe with a well paid coaching staff, the school being located in a hotbed for high school football (especially compared to the other BSC schools) and the other resources available we would ever finish last.

Matbe WSU was smarter than we are- they cut their Sears losses after 2 years. We were idiots and gave him a 3 year extension. I fullly expect Macriss to waltz in to Sears office and add another 5 years after this stellar season. WSU had a decent year, so who are the idiots in the sand box, them or us?

interesting how we had such good attendance yesterday and most of the year as the last place Big Sky team.
Even beat out the SUU /NAU game and PSU/EWU game as the T Birds and Vikings earn playoff spots along with Montana.

on to next year and the incredible possibility of being relevant in Big Sky football after 20 years.

The problem is everyone wants victory now and now and only now. We need to relax. Everyone thinks magic happens with a new coach.
If you fired Sears who would you get?

Look at some of these coaches they talk about firing and all of a sudden it's the best coach ever.

Ex: Katz our basketball coach
Iowa HC was on chopping block, now going to win Big 10
Sonny Dykes was on chopping block now in Bowl Conetion and getting extension
Ed Lamb had a really crappy year last season, Wins the Big Sky the next season.

Everyone needs to relax.

I fully agree and see Mooshiagian stamped all over this era. Sears has the same staff that helped him to 7-5, so the argument that these are Sperbeck's coaches is ludicrous. I see the situation as the 5yr. job security model employed by all coaches.

New HC comes in and forces out, runs off all the experienced players from the previous coach, then claims it will take 4yrs. to obtain the experience/skill needed to compete. Essentially it is a four year purgatory for fans and a guarantee livelihood for the HC.

Sperbeck had some bad recruiting contacts, no big deal and I would much rather have 5-6 seasons than 2-9. Let's remember, when Sperbeck was canned, Sears was in-house and a quick fix. No national search was conducted, they (Macriss) took the easiest route and as fans we pay for it.

The first year PSU HC has done wonders and is a perfect example of you either can coach or you can't. Giving somebody 5yrs. to determine they can't perform the job is criminal. Especially after the previous peer employer canned them for failure to preform as HC.

Moosh II is here for awhile unfortunately. Looks like all attention is on Katz now anyway.

Couldn’t agree more, well said.

you guys have to get better TV ads for these broadcasts. i was talking about this to my son last night (Sac '08). they have an interview with the school president (with hall-of-fame causeway sideline guy, Dan Dibley) and he's just gushing about the new event center ('we're going to have concerts on campus'), all the new buildings, new programs, buying his tickets for March Madness, etc. great energy, the guys seemed to really get it. and, then it goes to the commercial with the kid dancing across the graduation stage. which was better than than the girl daydreaming through graduation. take a camera around the campus, highlight the Well, show plans for the event center, show kids walking through a tree-lined campus...anything but those graduation sequences.

tough year on both sides of the Causeway. hopefully, kids grow in the off-season, recruiting is good, and we both figure out how to stay healthy. can't wait to see this game mean something in terms of the Big Sky race, or playoffs.

I was thinking the same thing GCM. Looking forward to 2020....

yep, really bad Sac State promo commercials.

Show the campus, show the accomplishments of Sac State alum, show the future.

So much to promote about Sac State and we do not do it.

And someone got paid to do this?

oh my.

A simple commercial showing Gonzo talking about the future of Sac State with the excellent video that exists of the future campus would have been so much better in the one chance the year that Sac State had at a huge TV audience. The UC Davis commercials ere excellent and they do not even need them to be relevant. Sac State lost.
