Week 12 - Sac State at Idaho

Thomson is back and looks fantastic. Weber getting smashed. Idaho announcers, “I think we can get a first down against this defense if they give us 10 downs.”

Lol

And Thomson is hurt again - drilled during a dead ball moment after SAC called time out and the option play sort of proceeded.

Save him!!!! Give me Dunniway! Lol

Thompson hurt again, bring in Dunniway!

This has been the worst game I've ever seen Thompson play.

Playing extremely sloppy and unfocused. Both sides.

Things we learned from this game.

1. The kicking game is absolutely atrocious. Might not affect us in games we're ahead by a couple of TDs, but we'll definitely bring us down against Davis in a closed Causeway Classic / Playoffs

2. Thomson is really really inconsistent. He has throws where it makes you question everything lol, especially against a good Defense + WR starting to drop some easily catchable ball? This is absolutely the worst time to start...

3. DB play = !!!

Congrats Hornets!!!!

31-7 win over Idaho to finish 4-0 on the road in Big Sky games. Wow!!! Extremely impressive. Historic

First ever win over Idaho. I know there's only been
3 match ups I think but congrats all the same.

Back in first place in the Big Sky with Weber going down today.

Sac State in first place and looking to win the Big Sky title next Saturday in the Causeway Classic against
UC Davis at Hornet Stadium. Pretty astounding and a dream come true even to write that. A few of us posters were young last time that happened. But we are all young or young at heart and all hug e Hornet fans.

Many of us were also young in 1988 when Sac State not only beat UC Davis in the regular season that broke an 18 year losing streak to the Aggies but also was the last time Sac State played a football game in the post season.

Remember that time in Hornet history all the years and history since.

And back to right now....

Sacramento State football is going to the FCS national playoffs in 2019

All days are a good day to be a Sac State athlete, coach, student, alum, fan.
But today is just a little bit sweeter.
Stingers Up!!!

Good win. In a place that’s not easy to win.

Offense played a ‘C’ level game. Defense was B+ level, but largely because Idaho wasn’t much of pass threat.

Thomson had moments, but was indecisive and inaccurate for a good portion of the game. But partially expected and excusable considering coming back from injury. I have no idea where he was throwing the ball on the INT.

The run game was very good. Dotson, Perk and the o-line were largely what allowed the offense to score points.

Defensive line kicked @$$ today and thwarted the Vandals offense when they needed to.

Glad they got this win out of the way and don’t have their playoff lives riding on next week’s rivalry game. They’re in the postseason now no matter what. But still have to win for a share of the BSC, which is huge.

I believe I heard earlier this season that no team has went from worst to first in BSC history (in one season). It’s be nice if the Hornets become the first and only.

Dang it...Thomson down again. He's still playing at this point WHY?!?

I give Kevin Thomson a lot of credit for playing today and gutting it out after that hit he took. He didn’t play lights out as he had been most the season, but he played well enough to give the team the lift it needed.

Mind blowing that

that the Hornets Have ARRIVED and posters are not sure about that . Very odd. And all good. We are all behind the Hornets in this incredible season.

For sure, but at that point in the game where he went down for a bit before getting up and coming out for the punt, I kept asking myself why he hadn't been pulled already to save him for next week.

The good fortunes just keep coming. I wasn't sure what to make of the Hornets' effort in the third quarter, but they played well enough otherwise to get another win. I'll admit I was expecting more out of Idaho, but Sac State did what they needed to keep the Vandals from doing much. Now it's time to put all doubts aside and show UC Davis that this team won't get pushed around. STINGERS UP SACRAMENTO! :D

Thank goodness.

My fellow Sac Buzz posters have showed up.

Our Hornets are in first place in the Big Sky Conference heading into the Causeway Classic coming up on campus next Saturday at hornet Stadium.

Is there anything more perfect than that?

31-7 Hornet win. Offensively it was ugly at times, and defensively it was dominant, but the Hornets got the win and punched their tickets to the playoffs for the first time in the D1 era and that’s all that matters about this game.

The game got off to a great start with the Hornet D forcing a turnover and the offense immediately cashing it in for a TD. Unfortunately, a dropped TD by Martin on the next drive set the tone the for the passing game the rest of the way. Thomson short armed a sure goal line TD pass to Perkinson on a drive in the 3rd. Thomson was not sharp at all, and he took some hits. Fortunately, the OL dominated the line and the Hornets did whatever they wanted on the ground.

Defense was great. Idaho had 16 total yards at halftime. 16. Defense also got pressure on the QB (3 sacks, 5 hurries). They needed this to get things back on track, great effort.

Kicking wasn’t great, but hard to blame Medeiros on the 1st missed FG as he should have been kicking a PAT instead (came on the heels of the dropped Martin TD). The 2nd missed FG was a 55 yarder. Meh.

Game plan/management was meh. I thought we threw the ball more than we should have given the way the Hornets were dominating in the trenches, especially the way Thomson was struggling. Maybe the thought was to try and get Thomson into a rhythm. I wasn’t a fan of Taylor taking the points off the board, but it paid off as the Hornets pounded it into the endzone. Oh well, a win is a win.

And relax with the “where is everybody at?” talk, some folks had some celebrating to do after the win.

PLAYOFFS!!! 8-)

I'm not too worried about the kicking game for the reasons SD mentioned.

The second half adjustments were all Idalol's way, especially on our defensive side. Something's got to be done about that next week. Rivalry games are notoriously tricky, even when there's a clear talent disparity like we have this year.

Thanks to the Griz for allowing us to slide into this crazy three-way tie for the conference lead. We have a SLIM chance at a solo title, but that would take a win over the Manure Pile (probable), a Kitty win in the Brawl (possible), and a ISU win over BBQ (not likely at all). I think that at best, we're looking at a tie with BBQ, a push leaving us in a three-way tie, and (disaster) a loss dropping us out of the tie altogether.

That said, I think we're looking at being ranked #3 this week. Yes, I'm homering quite a bit with that, but we DO have the H2H against the Griz, so I think it's time we overtake them again....

I had some back and forth on Twitter with some FCS writers, it seems the Griz history of being in the upper tier of FCS football is going to get them some street cred, however, our wins over 3 ranked teams may get us a higher seed. MT beat Monmouth before they were ranked, so they have that as a quality win. Win against Davis and we will get a first round bye.

A win, complete curb stomping of UCFE. Then it will be perfect.
