Week 12: Sac State @ Portland State

Both programs have been an utter disappointment this season. Hornet defense will have their hand full with the Vikings run heavy pistol offense. The Hornet offense needs to get back in stride against a PSU defense that ranks in the middle of the BSC.

Special teams look to be about a wash on either side, but PSU does lead the BSC in net punting.

Go Hornets!

I'm old school, so this could be a bit more important to me than the rest of you, but this could be the game decider, particularly if weather becomes a factor. Have you heard anything on the weather report, SD?

Nowadays, teams are less likely to discard passing altogether in snow/rain/mud/wind games, but they MIGHT cut down on the amount they do, thereby increasing the running game. Fumbles therefore are magnified in turnover importance; interceptions are still a problem, but are probably a lesser factor, as DBs usually can't catch as well as WRs. As teams rush more, punting becomes a huge factor in determining where drives start. Again, this might not be quite as important as it used to be, but the fact remains that the farther back you start, the harder it is to put the ball in the end zone. A slick field also makes field goals a bit more of an issue, as the kicker can slip.

I'm not sure who balances out with the advantage in all of that, but it COULD be PSU based on SD's citation of their punting prowess.

Of course, it could turn out to be beautiful weather, in which case all bets are off, as on a perfect field, these should be two fairly well-matched teams. I do like our chances regardless....

You're not old school... Well, maybe we both are. :-)

I as well consider punting a very important part of the game of football. Our punter has been really great to watch this season. I thought I'd pass on a story about him. Odd little route as to how he got to where he is, but I thought you might like it.

Good luck to our boys today. I'd like to predict a win, but lord knows with this squad. A victory would be great going into the good old fashioned hate match coming up next.

Well, nice drive by the Hornets, especially the long pass to Norrise. But being conservative inside the 10 coupled with a stupid false start only yields 3 points.

Once again, no defensive discipline. If we get deep into the red zone on offense, I don't have confidence we will be scoring touchdowns because of this offense getting too vanilla. Ugh, this is about to get ugly IMO.

I actually was happy we had a false start there. That meant the Hornets could check out of the jumbo set that has been nothing but fail this season. But overall just poor play calling. The coaches are calling heavy run and its getting us nowhere. There doesn’t appear to be much of a game plan so far.

And Safron throws one into triple coverage for a pick.

D forces a FG which PSU misses. If PSU can get out of their own way they can win this one easily.

Hey, our "D" stays tough when we have to and they have place kicking issues; maybe we can get it going on "O" here one of these drives.

Those Viking camouflage uni's are so good you can't read the number unless they are standing still.

Hornet O line is getting dominated...and that is with 2 TEs in the box. :ohno:

Umpire goes out with a injury (announcers say a broken nose).

TD PSU. 14-3 late 2nd qtr. Should be enough for the win.

This game is over because the coaches and the players have absolutely no clue what they are doing. And whats worse, they don't have the capabilities of making adjustments at the half. Pass the antacid please!

Our "D" melts down right before the end of the half; we look like a 4 and 8 team.

That last segment was a perfect example of why house needs to be cleaned on the 24th.
