Week 15: Sac State vs Austin Peay - FCS PLAYOFFS / RD2 (ROAD TO FRISCO!)

I like Thompson, but he is too Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde. I am not sure what swings his productivity from brilliant to cant hit the side of a barn play style.

That he is - but we don't have any better option (at least right now). If he comes back fully healthy with the complement of options we're expecting. I think he starts to look elite again. How badly did we miss Johnnie Rucker this year! Pierre Williams will return healthy, Dotson and Perk too. Parker Clayton and Marshel Martin in year two...

We should probably be most worried about our DL and pass rush...

But I don't believe for one minute that AP was better than the Hornets team we saw back in October.

Let's be real. The Hornets beat much better teams than AP this season. I believe you'll see that proven next week, as I fully expect MSU to win by a couple scores if not more.

I knew it. 24-10. Should have been worse.

AP just wasn’t that good. Hornets beat better teams during the season.

Very surprised Montana lost to Weber after completely destroying them several weeks ago. Very low scoring game too. I still believe UM is better and the real truth is somewhere in between the two outcomes.

Regardless, congrats to both MSU and Weber and I hope they represent the BSC well in the semifinals.

You're wrong here. Not sure why you have a hard time giving quality teams their due but AP was a legit team this year. They were the far better team compared to the Hornets, it wasn't close. I watched a little of the MSU-AP game and MSU's defense completely owned them. That and AP had to go up to elevation and play in frigid temps which also played into MSU's advantage. MSU's offense did what they did all year and ground and pound to another win. MSU was the hottest BSC team entering the playoffs so I'm not surprised to see them making a deep run.

I didn't see any of the Weber game but I think it was played in snow so that would have played into their strengths.

No, they weren’t. MSU just proved my point. I don’t know why you have such an easy time overvaluing teams.

Besides, I never said AP was a bad team. Just said they aren’t that good. And they aren’t. Sac State struggled with NAU too. Did that make them a good team? No.

Fact is the Hornets weren’t the same team in November as they were in October or even earlier. And they were missing their top 2 playmakers and a starting lineman in the playoff game. That’s a huge deal.

How good do you think AP would have looked if roles were reversed and they were down 3 of their top offensive players and the Hornets were at full strength?

Everything I said was true. A healthy Hornets squad beat better teams. MSU and Montana were both better than AP. And the Hornets beat MSU on the road by double digits and annihilated UM. AP didn’t face that same team. If they had, they’d have lost by double digits too. I have no doubt.

Sorry for telling it like I see it. But, in my defense, I was spot on with my prediction regarding MSU winning by double digits. That’s because I know what I saw in both teams when Hornets played them. And AP isn’t all that good. Sorry.

October Hornets beat that team by 14+

I watched the Weber Montana game. Very early it looked like Montana was going to runaway with it, then the Weber D dropped the hammer. They picked Snead 5 times and were all over him all night, and played very tight D.

In the second quarter, the Weber RB Davis took a pretty bad hi-lo and was out the rest of the game except for 1 play. Looked cheap to me. I commented on Twitter about it,the sheep got angry with me. I told em great let’s have every one of your skill positions get hi-lowed every game next season and see if you still feel the same way.

Anyway, Weber had zero offense, blocked a punt in the end zone for a TD. It will be defensive battle but generally you need some sort of offense to win a game, they don’t beat JMU.

Watched the NDSU-ISUgame also, the Bison are beatable, ISU shut their offense down.

Rant over.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on AP then. I only watched them for 2 games. Furman in round 1 and then our game. They have noticeably better talent then the Hornets at multiple areas, if I could have a school yard pick 'em between the 2 teams, I'd play it like this:

QB: Their QB over Thomson. Their QB is a much better athlete and throws a damn good ball on the run.
RB: Dotson over their guy. Pretty close here.
WR/TE: I'd take their #1WR over Pierre Williams, Parker over their #2WR, Martin over their #3WR/TE
OL: Ours I suppose, although theirs had a much better game then ours.
DL: Ours. APs DL is bigger but the Hornet DL is more versatile. However their DL had a much better game than ours.
LB: APs LBs were noticeably better, more athletic, better tacklers/hitters, more aggressive when needed
DB: APs secondary was leaps and bounds better than the Hornet secondary. Not even close here.
Special Teams: Meh.

The October Hornets didn't show up in November/December. I agree it may have been a different outcome if the Hornets were healthy, unfortunately that's not how this game works. Likewise, November/December MSU is playing way better than October MSU. Assuming the Hornets would have rolled them again had we beat AP is also a stretch.

Look, I'm not trying to take anything away from this Hornet team. The 2019 Hornets are the best Hornet team in the D1 era (if not ever) and it ain't close. It was a fun ride, a win or 2 in the playoffs would have been awesome but I'm still very enthused how this season turned out and about what lays ahead for this program.

Everyone calm down. Jeesh, fighting over a successful season?

Any Given Saturday is a term used for a reason and that day, AP had the Hornets #.
I did like the AP QB, good size, mobility and arm.
