Week 3 Games

This week's slate of games around the BSC are very interesting. On Thursday we have the two bottom teams duking it out for cellar dweller honors in Sac and NAU. We have ISU hosting Northern ISU. That game will be a rock fight from the start. We have EWU coming to our place, fresh off a win over Montana. Then you have PSU hosting UNC right after we pissed them off by beating them on their home court.

Saturday's games feature us getting UI right after their emotional game with ISU. EWU travels to ISU in a who knows what might happen game. UNC travels to Sac in another who knows what might happen after a hard fought game at PSU. Then you have NAU traveling to PSU to get their butts handed to them. Montana travels to Bozeman to find out if MSU is for real this year. I see that game as a tossup.

Anyways, we are in the middle of it now.

I have watched EWU play a few times this year. They are much better than their record shows. They have 8 seniors on their team and some good talent there. They beat UM when UM made a series of mistakes in the last two minutes of a close game. In addition to the 8 seniors, they have a junior and a sophomore who are talented and play significant roles. They will definitely win more games this year. I just hope it isn't against us.

Unlike UNC, they will give up open 3 point shots often. They also are less physical in the paint. However, they are quicker in the paint and that is a concern. UM got a lot of offensive boards and seemed to be dominate on the boards in general. I think we will do well on the boards. They do have some good shooters, so we can't leave most of them open.

Wow, that was an exciting game. Getting down 10 in the second half and then storming back to win going away, made it a little more exciting than it needed to be, but over all a fun game for the biggest crowd so far. It was great to see the large number of students out to the game. The band, half time, everything was top notch. I hope we can start building on this.

Idaho is up next. Some preseason poles had them finishing first in the BSC and they had a fairly good preseason. They lost a close game to ISU last night, but ISU had to come from behind, similar to what we did with EWU. To me, UI looks a lot like last year's version with a bigger, but less athletic post lineup. Like UNC, they shoot a ton of threes. To beat them you need to defend the 3 point line well and take it in on them on O.
