Week 3: Sac State at Weber State
Weber State (0-2) comes into this game following a rough start to the season. The Wildcats opened up with a game at Oregon State and played them close into the 4th quarter. Last week WSU travelled to Fargo to face North Dakota State and they got thumped pretty hard, losing 41-14 in a game that was never close after the first quarter.
WSU has yet to show much signs of life on offense. QB Jadrian Clark (28/58, 243 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT) has struggled, but he has found WR Cam Livingston (8 rec, 124 yds, 1 TD) who has so far been the only spark on offense. A lot of this can be contributed to the tough early schedule so I would expect WSU to have more success this week as the Hornet defense will be by far the weakest one they will have seen up to this point. Defensively WSU has given up a lot of points and yards, but they have been on the field for about 15 minutes per game more than their offense has. No defense is going to do well under those circumstances.
WSU Season Stats
This is a must win game for both teams as both teams are looking for their first D1 win of the season. Sears will have another chance to show up his former employer so there is that underlying headline as well. This game will give both sides a good feel for where they are at. I feel that the Hornets are a little further along in development than WSU is at this point in the season. The Hornet offense was solid in week 1 against weaker competition, and had limited success against a much more talented team last week at Washington. The Hornets will need to find a way to run the ball in this game.
Defensively the Hornets will need to do a better job of keeping the ball in front of them, but WSU has nowhere near the talent level on offense as Washington did. Even with that talent disparity of last weeks game, the Hornets were able to get pressure and force stops. If the Hornets can get pressure on Clark this week and keep tabs on Livingston, I think they can limit WSU’s offense and give themselves a good chance at the win. This game is a toss up, but I’m going with the Hornets on the road.
Go Hornets!!!
