Week 4: Griz @ Hornets

Any thoughts about this game? I watched the EWU-UM game this past weekend and UM is beatable…but not if the Hornets continue to play the way they have the last two weeks. I’ll try to have my game outlook up no later than tomorrow evening.

I'm not sure home cooking is going to cure the problems the Hornets have had the last couple of weeks. They have been pathetic on offense and weak on defense. :ohno:

Hopefully the last chance to save their season will light a fire under them. If not, I can easily see them finishing 2-9 (only other win at NCU). Even ISU is now lighting up the score board.

I don't see it.

Sac rights the ship and wins a close one, 31 - 24. This game is a must win and the team will approach it as such. I think the crappy playcalling and lack of heart will be remedied.

OH, I agree with you. Lose this and things could get real ugly. ISU and PSU are definitely not slouches this year. I watched some PSU clips on BSTV and NIgel Burton has PSU heading in the right direction.

Come to Jesus game!

My thoughts are that the we're not as bad as we've played the last two games. The schedule is just eating us alive. Too many tough road games in a row. 5 out of the first 6. If the coaches want to schedule like that, then they need to be able to keep the team mentally prepared for it.

The kids will be excited to play at home finally in front of their own fans. Sperbeck under pressure to get another big win. The preparation and desire will be there.

There is NO WAY we score 35 points on Montana! Our offense struggled against both SUU and WSU. To put that into perspective - WSU gave up over 400 yards rushing to USU, UTSA (a first year program) was able to put up more points and yards against SUU than we did. Montana on the other hand has only given up about 18 points per game vs FCS teams - one of those teams, EWU was able to put up over 30 on UW.

Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic but I don't know how you knock off a high caliber team after laying an egg two weeks in a row. I really hope I'm wrong - but nothing I've seen on the field in Utah leads me to believe I am.

You might be right. But if I don't have hope and optimism, I don't have anything right now with Sac State. Every game is different and when Sac State is running on all cylinders on offense, we can put up 30 on anyone. Sac State had opportunities the last two games that were completely missed. Dropped touchdown passes, and missing wide open wide receiver continuously. So we should racked up more points than we did. If we have anything, it's the talent to strike quickly and often. We just haven't executed for whatever reason. Fleming can't have problems with accuracy every game this season. Why can't this be the game where he hits open receivers? Would I be suprised if we scored less than 30? Not at all, but now is as good a time as any for Sac to get back on track.

Plus, I have tickets to this game and if I convince myself we have no shot, then i've just admitted I wasted my money.

Gosh, you guys are always so negative on this board, sheesh. ;)

Bingo, until the Hornets prove to me they are moving in a positive direction. No more cool aid drinking.

BTW...you are the one who bet against the Hornets v. Weber on all the other boards I viewed.

This is his fifth year and we are no better than Day 1 of the Sperbeck era.

GCM you are simply being too extreme. The program is in MUCH better shape than it was where Moosh left it. Please give me some of what you were smoking when you posted that absurd comment.

Also I don’t think anyone should feel bad about getting excited about this year’s team. We opened the season up with a win over a Pac-12 program so there was plenty of reason for the excitement. The team just needs to regain their composure and execute. There is plenty of time to recover, everyone just needs to take a deep breath and calm the fvck down. :coffee:

Yes better than Moosh, but not better than Volek. You seem to be the one going to the extreme, I just asked how long is Sperbeck's contract in another thread and predicted a mathematical constant against upcoming Montana.

These last two games haven't even been close. How is that extreme?

In year five with vast resources not afforded Volek or Moosh or any other coach in history of the program, the team should at least be competitive, ie. close game.

The budget is high and Sperbeck is paid more than any other BSC coach. Why not expect the team to perform better?

What has Sperbeck done to vastly improve the program? Besides 2 more wins a year. I'll also give him good GPA's and good citizen student/athletes. But with this budget we have to put butts in the stands. And you do that by winning. If we were at least 2-1 the OSU wave would still be the prevailing mood in football hungry Sacramento.

They pulled a Suck State. Twice. That's the facts jack and after 20+ yrs as a loyal fan I expect an 8-3 season after two fvcking decades.

If Ed Lamb after four yrs as HC in bum fvcking desolate barren wasteland southern high desert Utah with a population of 201 whip the #12th ranked team in the land, why can't the Sacramento HC located in a metaphoric gold mine of talent in a football hungry populace in the State capitol of the most populous state in the country win consistently? With better facilities? Green light from the administration, which was also not afforded any previous Hornet HC.

Thats my Bluto moment.

(amended)

I am going to go out on a limb here on my prediction. 9200 in attendance, of which about 7000 will have some sort of social beverage. 400 will be pretty toasted, and about 22 (regular posters on the board) will be completely sh!tfaced, regardless of score. :twocents:

GCM I’m not saying all is well right now and I agree with you for the most part, but the season is far from over and it seems like a lot of folks are throwing in the towel. There are no excuses for lack of execution and I’ve been saying that all along but I’m not going to give up on the season when it’s only week 4.

Ed Lamb is making it work because he has an excellent QB to build an offense around; that is something that this Hornet program has rarely had in recent memory. Even with their recent success, SUU has had trouble getting asses in seats and that is an issue that plagues all BSC programs not located in Montana. Being in the toughest FCS conference means obtaining wins won’t be a gimmie on any weekend so it’s going to be much harder to rebuild a program in the BSC than it is in the GWC.
