Week 4 - Sac State @ Fresno State

The kicking game has also been inconsistent this year which could cost us down the road. This team is going to surprise a lot of people this year, it going to be a fun ride!

Oh boy...so the "coach" in me decided to look at the video and I saw something really interesting and concerning on Kyle's blocked PAT. First I timed it with my stopwatch and the get off time was fine. Then I was able to grab some screenshots and found a big red flag. Check out the gap between the Long Snapper and Left Guard. It's like the parting of the Red Sea! #90 from Fresno State was through that gap before the snapper could even rise and block!

Yeah, saw that the LG (I think) had a delayed reaction to the snap and didn’t really pinch down at all - I’m sure the coaches saw it too. I don’t blame the K on that one.

34-20 Hornet loss. Hornets drop to 2-2 on the season but got out of Fresno with a check and no major injuries. The drunk natives were angry and restless when the Hornets tied it up in the 4th. I'll admit, it was pretty entertaining to watch and listen to the bewilderment of the Bulldog faithful at seeing their team getting taken to the limit by the Hornets.

Agree with everything BuckeyeHF pointed out. Another great effort by the defense, they were on the field too much (almost 38 minutes) and I think the coaches could have called a better game on offense to keep them off the field a bit more. I recall a series where the Hornets got a 1st and 5 after an FSU offsides only to throw the ball three times and punt.

Defense got torched when they dropped back in a zone, and seemed to do a lot better when bringing pressure. Unfortunately the Hornets were unable to really get to Reyna as he was quite elusive.

Refs seemed to bail Fresno out quite a bit. A lot of questionable calls in down and distance situations. That looked like a catch late in the game, oh well.

Kudos to the Fresno tailgate, very receptive and friendly and generous with the libations. Was accosted to play some drinking games with some coeds and their parents. I tried to explain that I'm retired from those kinds of activities but they insisted. Good times.

The bye couldn't come at a better time, then the Hornets get a reeling EWU at home in 2 weeks.

Stingers Up!

Great summary, SD!

Glad to read that those FSU fans pushed you outside your comfort zone!!! LOL. Sounds like it was a great time!

I toyed with making the trip down to Fresno, but opted to sit and watch at home by casting the FB broadcast to my TV. I'm pretty sure I'm going to make it out to the Eastern Washington game, though.

IMO, the EW game might be the most important game of the season -- in terms over overachieving and possibly making a run at a playoff birth. It's a crossroads game.

Win it, and they not only get a huge boost in confidence beating what's arguably been the best program in the conference in recent years and a team they've largely not had success with -- but it also puts them at 3-2 with a big conference win!

Lose it, and the season could deteriorate fairly quickly. As we know, they've got the toughest FCS schedule.

Let's hope the 2 weeks off provides a huge shot in the arm and that they are able to take advantage of it by taking down that juggernaut up North.

Were there only 10 on the field?

Originally yes, but time out was called and the 11th came out for the play. They had them all when the ball was snapped.
