Week 4: Sac State vs Eastern Washington
Eastern Washington (1-2) comes into this game off of a non-conference shootout win against Montana State 55-50. EWU had a tough schedule opening up at Oregon (in which they still put up 42 points) followed by a tough road loss at Northern Iowa.
EWU touts a prolific passing offense led by QB Jordan West (68/87, 1,053 yds, 12 TD, 2 INT). He has a plethora of targets featuring the best WR in FCS, Cooper Kupp (36 recs, 626 yds, 8 TD), Kendrick Bourne (17 recs, 226 yds, 4 TD) and Nic Sblendorio (16 recs, 298 yds, 1 TD). If that isn’t enough, RB Jabari Wison (41 car, 248 yds, 2 TD) can get it done as well. It’s early but EWU is doing their thing yet again. The BSC crown is theirs for the taking.

Defensively the Eagles are on the opposite end of the spectrum. In fact, they have yet to show up this season. The Eagle defense kept it close at UNI, but are prone to giving up plenty of yards and points on a weekly basis.
The Hornets will need a miracle to keep this game close, let alone having a shot at the upset. Defensively the Hornets can put all 5 DBs on Kupp and he’ll more than likely still put up video game numbers. Defending him is futile. I have no idea what the defensive strategy will be in this one, I guess blitz the house every play and hope for the best. I’m thinking EWU puts up 60 points in this one. I would say they match that with 600 yards, but if the Hornet offense doesn’t move the ball then their scoring drives won’t be much longer than 50 yards a clip.
Offensively the Hornets will need to show signs of life and hopefully rebound from a horrid game a week ago. EWU’s defense is weak and porous so they will not be the reason for lack of offensive production.
This game is a guaranteed loss, but EWU’s prolific offense is worth the price of admission for those on the fence about attending the game. Having an offense show signs of life is probably going to be the only positive to take away from this game when it’s all said and done.
Go Hornets!!!
