Week 6: Sac State @ Northern Colorado
The Hornets have yet another game on the road and this one is after a hard fought battle at a top ranked MSU. This week has the Hornets heading to Greeley to take on the Northern Colorado Bears. UNC has had a downright awful season so far and hopefully the Hornets keep that going for them. Having said that, the Hornets can’t just show up and expect UNC to roll over.
Offense
Northern Colorado runs a no huddle spread. This could give the Hornets some problems if their QB (Lobato, unless they make a change) gets in a rhythm. Lobato is mobile but has been inconsistent with his passing (sound familiar). The Hornets DL needs to control the line of scrimmage and contain their QB so he doesn’t create plays with his legs. They have struggled to run the ball so the defense will need to keep that under wraps as well. UNC’s team stats and statistical leaders:
Defense
UNC runs a 4-3 and they have had their struggles on this side of the ball as well. They are soft up front and have allowed lots of yardage through the air. This is a young defense and they have been beaten up on so far this season. This defense has made 5 INT’s and forced 11 fumbles, 5 of which have been recoved by UNC. UNC’s defensive stats:
Special Teams
I’m not really sure what UNC brings to the table in this category. Gunn is a speedster who took one to the house on a kick return last week so the kick cover team will need to not have any lapses this week. UNC’s season stats:
Intangibles
UNC has committed 38 penalties for 301 yards so far (60.2 ypg). That’s not too bad considering how badly this team has performed so far this season. Their turnover ratio is close to even so their defense seems to wipe out any offensive giveaways.
I have no idea what their injury situation is.
Hornetsports preview:
Not yet released.
The Hornets have never lost to UNC. Never. They shouldn’t lose this one if the Hornets show up and play a full 60 minutes. Two years ago the Hornets swarmed into Greeley, jumped out to an early lead and nearly pissed the game down their leg as UNC came roaring back to almost pull an amazing comeback. Given the wide open style of play this UNC offense utilizes, they have the potential to put up points quick. The Hornets need to keep their foot on the pedal for the entire game and take it to UNC on both sides of the ball. If the Hornets have another road no-show, they could very well lose this game. The Hornets have a much needed bye after this week so there is no reason why their full attention isn’t on the Bears.
