48-27 Hornet win. The Hornets end EWU's season and get their first win over EWU in Hornet Stadium. Hell of a game and hell of a team effort. Defense bends but doesn't break and scores 14 points, and the offense with a back breaking 13 play, 75 yard TD drive that chewed up almost 7 minutes in the 4th quarter to put the game away. Historic game for this program.

Reading EWU’s page, they’re blaming this L on the refs Lmao (yes, EWU!). With the exception of targeting call (which by the new rule, IS targeting) but I wouldn’t have called that, all of those flags were deserved. Don’t want flags call on you? Play a clean game. EWU o line holds pretty much every play. They’re lucky it wasn’t called more. Not including the fact that EWU’s play a lot after the whistle. Sore losers.

Eh, it goes both ways. That PI call in the end zone just prior to the fumble scoop and score by Darien Choates and George Obinna was an awful call. Can’t play a receiver much better.

Nothing ever comes easy for this Hornets program. As happy as I am about the huge W, I was upset during the game that I had to be stressed out worrying that they might blow it.

As surprising good as the defense has been this season, there were far too many awful effort plays tonight. The 92 and 36 yard runs by the QB were two of the better examples. Defenders just lollygagging around and not doing much of anything.

The 92 yarder on 3rd and 16 was an outright embarrassing play. A QB not named Michael Vick should never be able to run right up the middle of the defense and take it the distance. On that play and the 36 yarder, defenders were running half speed expecting someone else to tackle him. I wouldn’t want to be in Coach Thompson’s film breakdown tomorrow!

They’ve got to fix that! Badly!!

But all in all, I’m happy for the players, coaches, students, and fans! That was a much needed BIG win.

I was close and just shy of a missed field goal and PAT by the Hornets for our home team. Always happy to be off a bit just as long as our Hornets win .

And all the respect to EWU. Sorry the posts on their board are a bit over the line and understand that it doesn't represent all Eagle fans. Just represents the person who is the author. All good.

All good. And all kinds of ideas to make the east side full.

Expect to have Hornet Stadium more full in two weeks wit Homecoming against Montana.

I’m probably overestimating the attentiveness of the average Hornet fan, but if we upset MSU on the road next week, I expect 12-14k in attendance for Homecoming against UM the following week. Probably in the 10-12k range if we lose next week.

I was so impressed watching last night’s game from home this time (after Pluto turned off fishing and Hs basketball mid Q1). The whole time I was dreading the moment we “Sac State’d” things up. It almost came when Perkinson coughed the ball up, but our D got the ball right back, then Choate and Obinna broke EWU’s back.

This team just has a different mentality, and I did not expect this much success, this quickly. I honestly thought this was a two/three win season. Anything less than 6 wins now would surprise me!

Anyone see Jody Sears at the game last night? Nice that he’s invested in the players, also a major power move to the Admin, lol... thanks for the 200k and tickets to this game!

:lol: No kidding. I thought things would turn for the worst when Thomson threw that pick late in the 3rd to gift EWU great field position. We were up 14 and come out slinging it instead of giving Dotson touches and shoving the ball down the throat of that weak EWU defensive front. Our defense made a stop and forced a punt after a dumb EWU hands to the face penalty killed their drive. Any other Hornet team gives EWU a TD on that drive and things probably would have played out how they always have for this program...until now.

Barriere is a beast. He is the most dynamic QB this defense will see all season. montucky's Sneed comes close but Barriere is far more athletic. I was on the far endzone for the 92 yard run, but I recall a blitz right up the middle on 3rd and long gifting Barriere that wide open field. Once he got past the blitz and into the 2nd level he just out ran everyone else. Also note that those 92 yards account for over half of their rushing offense in this game. This defense had 7 sacks last night. SEVEN. Yet for some reason I have all the times Barriere was able to slip out of the defenses grasp and keep plays alive ingrained in my memory.

The only issue with the defense in this game was the amount of missed tackles that resulted in extra yards. EWU receivers seemed to slip out of tackles which hasn't happened much until this game. The secondary left some guys open but they also defended some key passes in this game. That BS PI call in the endzone on the play before the Choates/Obinna sack fumble TD was clean.

Solid turnout for this game. The President's Terrace was packed as was the Hornet Club north endzone area. The admin needs to figure out the bathroom situation though. It's just an embarrassing situation.

That fact that we didn't "Sac State'd" this one goes to show that this coaching staff has this team locked in. Plenty of times this game could have gone the other way, but it didn't and that's a huge positive sign for this program.

Great callout on the sack total. But I still feel they should have made a tackle on Barriere on that long TD play. I’ve rewatched it several times and you are correct that there was a blitz picked up on the play.

One Hornet went A gap and the slot corner came from the defenses left end. Once Barrier escaped up the middle, both linebackers #5 Hawkins and #22 Garcia collapsed in on him but didn’t get off their blocks. Honestly, the guard blocking Garcia probably should have been called for a hold.

But the worst offender IMO was #8 Caelan Barnes. As the last line of defense at safety, he has to give a better effort. He stood still with the WR and allowed everyone to race right past him. Then he even gave up prematurely in pursuit, running half speed. Had he kept running hard as #36 Prince Washington, #30 Allen Perryman and #24 Davion Ross (who never conceded ) he would have caught him around the 25.

I think the Barriere runs were out of character he is Very fast, more I,pressive in person.

Craig Haley posted on Twitter he was putting us in his Top 20, so expect to see us no lower than 22. Looking forward to game this Saturday.

When the team got too cocky and started making careless decisions, I had visions of all the games of past we have lost on the last play or within the last minute. All the close Montucky and Weber games, davis and EWU, dont forget SUU too.

The kicking game will be the achiiles heel of this years club. And getting too cocky.

Regarding the kicking team, I couldn’t agree more. That is the glaring weakness with this team. Every XP and FG is an adventure.

Perhaps the reason they toy around with formations on the XP is mostly for show and hoping to possibly cause a moment of hesitation on the rush. Because the kicks aren’t getting much height and are easier to get a hand on.

I don’t recall Madeiros being this inconsistent in seasons past. And the line play in front of him hasn’t been good, which certainly doesn’t help.

I found this game with about six minutes and change left, flipping through channels after the last of the boring P5 games the networks insisted on airing. The Sac announce crew is getting better, though I don't think I'll EVER be satisfied with Aaron Garcia on color, and the PxP guy is a bit green.

That said, I, too was concerned about the officiating, but that was an issue I saw the entire weekend, from my HS game Friday night, through this game, and into a showboating side judge in the GB-DAL game Sunday afternoon. Overall, officiating has gotten worse as the powers that be try to dial in certain things or are just plain ruining the game altogether (case in point: several bogus rule changes by Roger Goodell). Taylor is doing an outstanding job keeping our guys on point even when the officials try to hand the game to the other team on a silver platter.

While it's been noted in other settings, a key point is that we are now a HUGE victim of ECB, at least in terms of the polls. Given our performance against ASU and Fresneck, THIS game against the then-#21 team in the country SHOULD have gotten us into the Top 25. In the new coaches poll, we are sitting on the doorstep at #2 in the ORV; the STATS Poll hasn't been released yet, though I still have hopes for that one.

Next week against the #6 Kitties will be a key test, but I think we have the wherewithal to take them out. They won't be able to ignore us after THAT, right?!?

I certainly agree with you, Kadeezy. I think it stems from the Manure Pile's initial inflated presence in the Top 5 based on last year's over-the-top performance. One more loss (or even a bad win) this week should relegate them to the ORVs, and one after that will completely eliminate any of THAT, too....

He played against Northern Colorado and Fresno State and basically has two games left "in reserve" this year that would allow him two more years of eligibility after this season. They want to keep his up to two remaining games this year on hold in case #92 gets injured or even worse, his performance melts down.

So I'm basically hoping and praying for #92 to kick consistently and keep my kid on the bench the rest of the year!

Unfortunately Madeiros look like he’s either hurt or in his own head after being a completely passable PK for a couple years. I know nothing about ST, but he looks to be “aiming” where in the past it seemed like he just strode up and kicked the sh|t out of the call (to mixed results).

Yeah, something's going on there and I hope it gets solved as we're getting into the conference part of our schedule. Hopefully it's not an old injury flaring up or even something new. I held my breath a second when he got launched trying to make a tackle on a kickoff. Ideally we'll do well enough in the other phases of the game where it'll be a non factor either way, but I've watched enough football over enough years to know that won't most likely be the case and we'll need it to bail us out at some point

Hopefully, teams will still be taking us lightly for now and we can use that to our advantage. I've seen a couple of other boards where we're referred to as "Suck State"...I hope they keep thinking that as long as possible!

If you look at the Versus site, they take a lot of stat comparisons, schedules and predict outcomes. I did not know the Kitties have played a weaker schedule to date. They show MSU as very beatable.

I think the performance this weekend turned some heads, Sam Herder of Hero sports has us in his list of teams that might make a run at the playoffs. If we take out that Barriere run, they had very little in the run game. Barriere was pretty accurate on his throws, But the defense did a pretty good job here.

i think Medeiros is getting some looks from the pros and it messing with his head, hoping we can keep our other kicker on ice this year so we get 2 good years from him.
