Week 7 - Sac State at #5 Montana

Looking at the Montana box. Something odd is popping up. Are we running a QB shuttle system, or something? It seems that both Dunniway and O'Hara played. Dunniway seems to have gotten more done, but O'Hara seems to be more efficient (albeit not as productive with 8-9-75 in the air and 17-72-1 on the ground, while Dunniway was 17-29-227-1-1 in the air and 5-21 on the ground), at least in terms of the passing game. Both seemed to be pretty effective on the ground. And both, per the numbers anyway, seem to have been better than Brown for Montana (higher passing yardage percentage, higher long passes, etc.) It DOES seem that Brown was scrambling more (23 of his 24 rushing yards came on ONE play, seriously cutting down on his average), though he DID get two rushing TDs. But was that more scrambling after a nasty pass rush, or were they calling RPOs or called QB runs?

Is there something to this supposition? I do like how Hornet QBs seemed to spread the ball around (TEN receivers caught passes and three credited non-QBs rushed the ball, though there were two uncredited rushers who didn't do so hot). Are we going to have to deal with this for the entire season, or will either Dunniway or O'Hara pull away and become the permanent QB?

Watch the highlights, better yet buy ESPN+ for $50/year and watch the games live or watch the replays.

This forced me to register.... this is the funniest post I have seen in a long time and it made my day.

So, you haven't seen the Hornets play this year? Yet you post about almost every game?

Can he be removed as a mod? What is happening here?

Welcome. Glad to introduce you to one of the most interesting internet sensations of the past 2 decades.

FYI: I'm one of those rare anachronisms that don't have home Internet access or a smart phone. While SD and I do not always agree, I do recognize that he has a massive football intellect, and I respect what he says. I often have to rely on others, like SD, for my info. It stinks, but that's the way it is....

This game was also on over the air TV in the Sacramento area... Meaning any restaurant could have pulled it up for you... Literally, any.

Users have also been talking about our two quarterback system all year, because we've ran it all year. Have you just been posting and not been reading this season? Do you want me to pull the discussion links for you about the two quarterback system so you can catch up?

I know about the on-going discussion. My point was my disgust that after six games, we're STILL going with the shuttle system. I think it's eventually going to bite us in the butt. That said, I have NO problem with putting the backup in for a series during the second quarter for two purposes: to give the starter a different perspective before sending him back in, and to get the backup real-time (i.e. not mop-up duty) experience for when the starter goes out with an injury. For me, that works, but a continual rotation thing does NOT. While that might be an early-season thing if you're unsettled following fall camp, but by about Week 3 or so, it should be settled....

If you haven't seen how the coaches do it, and can't be bothered to watch highlights, attend games, listen to games or watch games, how can you possibly comment on it?

Considering SH is a former player here, he may have picked up a few things about football over the years. Maybe spend a couple weeks and review SH’s posts over at least the past decade may give you insight into how he can comment.

He was not a former player.... You are hilarious!

Not to feed the rancor, but to clear the air about my status:

I was a red-shirt freshman walk-on quarterback at University of the Pacific in 1995. The school dropped the program that year, and I transferred to Sac State after completing my A.A. at San Joaquin Delta College. I was NOT officially on the roster at Sac State due to FCS roster limits that didn't exist at UOP (which was FBS at the time, and therefore was allowed over 100 players), I WAS part of the program as an assistant to OL Coach/Video Coordinator Angus McClure under Head Coach John Volek. I took all the classes (including the required football "coaching class" that served to install the offense and defense) the team did, and I was on the field with them during games. While I am not an expert to the degree, of say, Pete Carroll (who played and coached at UOP) or DeAndre Carter (a Hornet WR with the Washington FT), I do have SOME knowledge that might be considered higher than that of the average fan. I also go with my heart more than my head sometimes, largely because I love Sac State Football. It's that passion that placed me here on Sac Buzz as administrator, thanks to founder iSac. Similarly, I asked SD to be a moderator because of his passion and demonstrated knowledge. I acknowledge that at neither place did I have any chance of seeing the field (save possibly for Senior Day) as at the time I was a 5'6" quarterback with a 5.2 40 and no arm, but the staffs (and the players) at both places were gracious enough to acknowledge me, and I'm grateful to them for the relationships and the football knowledge I learned. My current situation is limited in terms of finance and my current location (I don't have home Internet access or cable, and can't afford it, which precludes me from the ESPN stuff), and while the Hornets are SOMETIMES carried on Channel 31, they are not always, and I'm not always around when they ARE aired. For example, last weekend, I was attending a men's conference affiliated with my church. I rely on knowledgeable people like SD, and acknowledge him as one of the best commentators both here at SacBuzz and at CS.com, even when my limitations cause him some grief. I'd like to be able to do it for myself, but I'm not always able to do that.

That said, I thank HH for the support.

None of the Pacific stuff happened... I wish you would stop spinning that tail. Its tiresome after all these years.

But hey, if you all want to believe that Chuck Shelton let a 5'6" quarterback walk on at an FBS program - then HornetHope et al - enjoy the fantasy.

I guess after all these years the story is just truth. Like everything Hulk Hogan believes happened.

No evidence has ever been provided - no former player has ever shown up and remembered you as part of the team (the support staff would be a different story).

The fact that you let this guy play out this fantasy either shows you are better people than I, or this is, in fact, the worst message board in America.

Here's my football background SH.

6'6" 245lb DE/TE Varsity Starter on a local section championship team. Received recruiting interest (coach call and follow up letters) from Willamette, Linfield, and Grambling State. Great hands, hard worker, slow as hell, late bloomer and weak in the weight room. Loved Sac State, and thought I might fit as a blocking TE in the Mooshagian Offense, quickly ran the other way after seeing the treatment of walk ons at the time. So failed football player, here! Love Hornet Football and Hornet Sports , and will always support them. I married a Hornet athlete in hopes that maybe some of her genes will rub off on my boys and they'll make it farther than I ever did lol.
