WEEK 8 SUU

So this is the big week for WSU Football! If WSU can redeem themselves from last years SUU blowout in Ogden, they are legit! There I said it, SUU has an absolute shutdown defense, so can WSU offense score more points than the defense is going to give up? 3rd and 3, 3rd and 10 or 3rd and 22, the WSU defense seems to not be able to stop anything. Heck Montana State was playing with a freshman QB.

WSU has now beat the 4 doormat teams of the Big Sky Conference, not my opinion just the facts. Still have huge concerns about the defensive unit at WSU. The only thing that stopped Montana State's offense on Saturday was the officials/penalties and just bad play of kitty kats. Montana was only forced to punt 3 or 4 times the entire game. The defense has no ground containment on the edges and doesn't seem to have any answers to fix it going into week 8.

Good hell are you ever happy? You come across as one of those unrealistic BYU fans. The refs had nothing to do with Weber winning yesterday. Weber physically dominated the Bobcats. If you think SUU is an absolute "shutdown" defense then look at their score yesterday. WSU has won 4 in a row and yet all you do is accentuate the negative.
I am damn proud of this team thus far especially considering the injuries they have dealt with.
And even though I haven't been the biggest fan of our QB, I have to give him props. He is balling right now.
I will be in Cedar cheering on MY Cats!

What do you think? Will it be payback, will it be Coach's first win vs. Thunderbirds, or will SUU be pumped to give Wildcats another in-state spanking this time in Cedar City???

3-0 Weber St. vs 2-2 Southern Utah (BSC), Saturday 6pm. Might be a defining toughness test for the Wildcats on the road now, but no doubt Wildcats should be geared up for this one. Southern Utah's beating by North Dakota on the road should have them up for it as well, if not just the fact it's the in-state rival BSC game.

I've got an L penciled in...SUU 35 WSU 28, but have a feeling the Wildcats can pull it out, hope so!!!

PS, 'thewaterboy', Yes! :thumb:

The defense has no ground containment on the edges.

The 31 points allowed to Portland State, 43 allowed to Montana and 45 allowed to North Dakota says otherwise.

:ohno: Held Montana State to 21 points till the very last seconds of the game had several stops and grabbed 3 turnovers. MSU had 12 drives the entire game and scored on four of them

Punt
Fumble
Fumble
TD
TD
Punt
Int

Punt

.....yup our defense is horrible.

That last one is proof that at times even you can be right.

Weber has a tough game this next weekend, SUU will be pumped for us. Weber has lost the last 2 games in Cedar City by a combined 5 points. (With worse teams, last win vs SUU was in Cedar City 2012) Now Weber is a good team (yes I'm saying Weber is good, not Eastern Washington good, but good). I honestly think Weber is the better team this year but as we all know the better team doesn't always win the rivalry games. SUU still has loads of talent so if Weber doesn't go in prepared it could get ugly. Here's hoping the Weber players remember last year's game and use that as motivation to leave Cedar City with a win.

GO WEBER
BEAT SUU

This week things get tougher for the Wildcats. I don't know what to make out of SUU. They are a dangerous team, especially when playing in Cedar. We all know that they have a strong defense that has the potential to shut down teams. Their offense isn't very explosive, yet, it gets the job done. Even though the score doesn't resemble it, I felt that SUU played well against both Montana and North Dakota.

As for Weber, I feel that the Wildcats have continued to improve throughout the season. We are really struggling in four areas. Limiting running QBs, rushing defense on the end, I feel that our passing defense is soft, and third down defense. Yes, it is getting better, but I feel there is room for improvement in those areas especially. I really feel our rushing defense has improved immensely, but we all know that the Wildcats still have plenty of room for improvement. Our secondary is getting better though.

On offense, it is kinda hard when we are down to our 3rd/4th string RB. I'm wondering if Wilkes will play again this season. After missing this much, it might be best to have him red shirt like Tela. We have a lot of depth at the RB position. As for our QB. The passing game has improved, but he is stills starring down receivers. Twice last Saturday he should have been picked (he was and if it wasn't for an absolutely bone-headed play by State, a pick 6 would have been a momentum changin play) because he didn't check off receivers. But, he is seeing the defense far better and making changes on the line, which has proven to being a huge plus for the offense. I hope we can get a RB back either Pooler or Garret, this week.

I've run on their track. They have a really nice football facility. I won't be able to make the trip this year, but will be watching on line. They have a nice basketball facility as well. I like everything about their campus except their remoteness. They are in the middle of nowhere. We face two of those sort of places in a row.

I'm not sure what our chances are with SUU, but if we can pull out the win it will set up the rest of the season nicely. :coffee:

Anyone know if tickets to the game are being offered through Weber State? Or do I buy direct from SUU?

Ended up buying straight from SUU and gonna raise hail in their section again. Hope we are firing on Offense and Defense for a full game. If so, Weber 24 - SUU 20

http://www.thespectrum.com/story/sp...rivalry-continues-grow-significance/92397792/

In 2011, the year before the T-Birds joined the league, the Wildcats left a sign in the visiting locker room that read "SUUCKS" within the Southern Utah logo. Underneath the logo, the sign read, “Future Big Sky n00b To Be THUNDERSTRUCK.”

And as the game continues and the matchups become more meaningful, more people will learn just that. That this game has turned into a real rivalry.

“All that other stuff, everything that happens in the first six weeks, none of it matters," Warren said. "It’s Weber State week, that’s all that matters."

Take care of business Saturday. 60 minutes of payback for last year's debacle.

We play for a trophy, and that thing sits in our locker room all year long if we win the game.”

It's time for Weber to win the Battle of I-15 and bring that trophy back with them.

SUU's strength is of course their defensive line, they have some big lineman and are one of the better Big Sky teams at stopping the run, however they are 2nd to last in pass defense. A balanced attack is key to beating the Birds in Cedar City. Being able to control the line of scrimmage will be huge in this one. If we can get the running game going and be able to utilizing the play action similar like we did vs the Bobcats we will be in business.

Offensively they are not as strong.

They are 11th in scoring offense
13th in total offense
8th in rushing offense
11th in passing offense
13th in First downs
and 13th at 3rd down conversions

Of course we aren't a whole lot better at those stats, but if we can get the offensive production we got vs the Bobs and keep our defense off the field we will give ourselves a chance to win.

GO WEBER

There is a trophy? Really?

When has Weber State even acknowledge such a thing? When did it start? What is its name? I'm just shocked that there is such a thing. You'd think that our athletics department would make the most off of such a thing. But...then again potential has been slapping Weber in the face for the last few years and we ignore it. So, it makes sense that NOTHING is mentioned.

My guess, since the first date on the trophy is 2012 that it was started the year SUU joined the Sky. And I am guessing it is acknowledged by Weber cause if Weber wins they get to take it home.

Why make the most of a trophy that's been in SUU's possession 3 straight years?...with it's supposed beginning in 2012, the last time the Wildcats beat the Thunderbirds!!! Painful & Embarrassing (after last yr's 44-0 beating)!

Will the Wildcats get it back (or for the 1st time) this Saturday??? :coffee:

According to the SUU ticket website there are less than 500 tix available. For anyone going down to the game I would buy your tix online NOW and not rely on buying them at the gate on game day.

Actually YBU fans are not unrealistic they are just delusional! They have a fan base who talks about competing for the national championship and having a heisman trophy candidate each season, yet the fact is they were 1-25 against top 20 teams under the Bronco regime, not any better this year. Watch how bad a top twenty team beats them tonight like Boise State. Once WSU beats a top 20 team in the FCS or a top 3 team in the little sky not the bottom four teams, then I will be excited.

Update, YBU is now 1-26 against top 20 ranked teams, the streak continues, Thank you Broncos. Nice fake punt on the 2 yard line, might be the worst play call ever by YBU.

Wildcat, I asked the same questions. Evidently, athletics still hasn't answered any of my questions. No where can you find information on a traveling trophy in anything that has been released by our athletics department. It is not in the weekly guide, it wasn't on game tickets from last season, it isn't anywhere. Athletics has not acknowledged such a trophy.

DO I LIKE AN IDEA OF A TRAVELING TROPHY? YES!! Please reread my original response from this past August. Please don't give athletics any sort of kudos for this, because they don't deserve any. Having a trophy would make them do some extra work or LORD FORBID create more fans. I've decided that athletics doesn't want fans. Fans would hold them accountable and the powers that be don't want to answer questions. :thumb:

Why the hell is there so much concern over the cougars on this board? Last I checked this board was a place for Weber State fans (mostly to bitch and moan or be overly optimistic...lately I've been part of the bitch and moan crowd; hate it when that happens) to talk about our athletic programs. I don't care what happened to BYU...I never have!

OKAY...so, we are playing SUU in some Beehive Bowl that has a trophy that isn't mentioned by our athletics department. Part of our SMART Marketing Campaign that focuses on NEVER telling fans, students, or supporters about games and magically hoping they will fill up a stadium. Part of the campaign is to give away the house and cheapen the overall brand/product. Finally, this campaign will focus on road trips to the Dakotas, but not to our actual rivals like SUU or ISU. If this type of innovation, work, and ideas were utilized during WWII by the allies we'd all be speaking Japanese or German right now.

SUU might have the worst offensive statistics in the league but they have played better teams. Another worry is that in those games they have played well, they have been at home. We get them in Cedar tomorrow night and that it is going to take a perfect game from the Wildcats to win. Our defense has to get to the QB and put pressure on him all night. They have a good OL, RB, WR, and a decent QB who can run. They will be ready with fans to back them. I have a feeling that SUU is actually interested in filling their stadium for home games, something we haven't quite grasped yet (I wonder if we even cracked 10K profit last week) here at Weber open seats aren't opportunities to being occupied by a paying customer, but something that could be wrapped or covered. We are more interested in closing parking lots for no reason and having inflatables at games then actual marketing. 18K seats?? Fill them? No...people will just magically appear! :dunce:
