WEEK 8 SUU

Seems to me that 'ncaafootball', this board's football critic, is pretty well the only one mentioning BYU a lot...and according to another poster, all of our complaints & knocks on WSU athletic's marketing, etc., if read at all by the ADers. are scoffed and laughed at! :ohno:

Maybe they can plant blow-up dummies or mannequins (?) to fill out a good portion of the empty seats at Stewart Stadium...but that would be a huge investment...probably best just to offer unlimited free tickets to all home games, they are bleeding money anyway on KJZZ coverage. :wall:

WILDCAT is down at the Bookcliffs hunting and has very poor signal. Score updates would be very much appreciated Weber Nation

Holy crap! Caught the end of the game. That muffed punt was horrible, but what an ending. Love seeing SUU blow it!

What the hell just happened? I'm in shock. Wow!! What a comeback by the Cats. To be honest, I almost turned off the game two or three times. I really thought the Cats were done. Jadrian best be the player of the week.

Weber was down 36-14 with 8 minutes left in the game. SUU drives down and misses a FG. Weber scores! 36-21. Weber forces SUU to give up a safety. 36-23. Weber drives down and scores! 36-30. 2:25 left in the game. Onside kick! SUU recovers! Weber holds SUU to 3 and out! Gets the ball on the 35 because of some confusion with a punt 1:06 (?) In the game. Weber runs 3 or plays and scores 37-36. SUU gets the ball with 35 seconds left. Lady second hail Mary intercepted! Amazing 8 minutes of weber football that didn't feel like weber at all. Crazy.

How did we get the ball on the 35 on the final drive? The punt was returned to the 10 and it looked like there was a 15 yard personal foul on SUU... Where did the extra 10 yards come from?

So weber return man called for a fair catch at like the 3 yard line (stupid) but he trips and muffs it. It goes back in the end zone he picks it up and runs like crazy to the 9 with a personal foul tracked on the run. But by rule you called for a fair catch. So you can't start running after you call for a fair catch. So recovered in the end zone for a touchback. But there was still a personal foul but now a dead ball personal foul. So that puts them at the 35. Quite confusing. I'm not even sure they called that right. A muffed punt should override a fair catch call And the ball should be live in my head. But I don't know the rule book.

interesting. I definitely thought he could advance it since he effectively botched the "fair catch."

Turns out it was a genius play. Instead of catching the ball at the 4, he muffs the ball for a touchback, then returns the ball even though the play should've been blown dead for a touchback and during this time Weber draws a a 15 yard penalty on SUU to move the ball to the 35. Now that's one hell of a trick play!

Sounds like they nullified the run, called it a touchback, brought the ball out to the 20, and added on the penalty yards. That would take the ball to the 35. The muffed punt made it a live ball. Our player recovers but is not allowed to advance the ball. It is not a safety. He wasn't tackled in the end zone. It wouldn't have been anyway, I believe. :coffee:

Okay...so I've got quite a lot of apologizing to do on Monday to the coaches and some players. That was perhaps the most gratifying win in recent memory. We might not win pretty, but we win. Undefeated in conference! Next week a showdown is a brewing in Dakota.

From what I understand, the refs did get the play right. You can't really advance something that you don't possess. However, it was live once he touched it. My first thought was that it was a safety, but I learned recently that until the receiving team actually has possession of the ball, as long as you recover a muff in the end zone, it is a touch back. The receiving team cannot advance a muff punt. The issue was the fair catch, which made it a muff punt. No matter, our return man had the ball bounce off him into the end zone, which was recovered by him. Automatically a touch back, unless kicking team recovers and then it is a TD. The personal foul happened after the play. Dead ball foul, which no matter what happened still is assessed. Hence the ball ending up on the 35. Stroke of luck! SUU fell apart in the 4th. Lots of unnecessary penalties. Before the punt, they killed themselves wit another 15 yarder. It was karma though. Weber spent the entire game shooting themselves in the foot and then the universe balanced things out.

This game definitely makes the rivalry that much more riveting!

Holy hell what a comeback! What an effort by the WSU players and coaches. Weber had a good crowd in Cedar. I sure am glad I decided to go to this game. Great to see the SUU fans in utter shock after the game. For the love SUU, please build more bathrooms and concession stands.

WEBER WINS! Better to be Lucky than Good!
No Positives and Negatives. The list would be way to long on both sides.
Congrats to coach Hill and the Wildcats for winning a game you never had the lead in until the final 31 seconds of the game. Nice Rushing the field by the fans at the end of the game for the Wild cat nation and grabbing the BEEHIVE Trophy, yes it does exist, I have pictures with it to prove it!
How a team wins when the defense couldn't stop anything all night. The wildcats had so many penalties, so many missed field goals and so many mistakes, (5 dropped passes, wildcats back on track for the season on drop averages per game), fumbles, you name it, even a blocked field goal taken to the house by SUU. It was a night where the only offensive plays that were working for the Wildcats was screen pass and QB keeper? Thank goodness they brought in Cheeseburger Cantrell as back up QB. He scores on a TD run and scores on an two point conversion where he trucks over the DB of SUU like a bull dozer, WOW!! Then again when have you seen a 93 yard punt by an WSU player, Amazing stuff all night long. At times it was ugly and at times a thing of amazement. The Wildcats have now went 5-0 against Five teams with losing records. Next week the Wildcats play the first conference team of the season with a winning record in Dakota's. Enjoy the ride while you can Wildcat Nation! Who would of thought you would have trouble in Cedar City getting a ticket and the game was sold out!!!!!!!!!Crazy night Wildcat fans

Can only add that this Wildcat team has a flare for the dramatic...win or lose! Teaching fans who think the game is as good as over, with a loss or a win, had better stay with the game until the bitter/sweet end! Maybe a bizarre win over the Thunderbirds, but a WIN none the less! :thumb:

Weber turned the ball over twice (both times Cats driving) that, in each instance, led to a TD by SUU. Also, Weber misses two more FGs and a point after, which equals 7 total points left on the field. Added all up that is 14 more for SUU and 7 less for Weber a 21 point swing in a sense and the Cats still pull out the W?!? Amazing comeback by Weber, but if they clean a few things up and get someone who can kick that game isn't even close. Jay Hill said it best, SUU probably deserved to win with all the mistakes by the Cats but Weber never quit. I know SUUs record has more L's than W's but that is one good team in Cedar. Something that community and fan base can be proud of. Now, for Wildcat fans, this is definitely a team we should be proud of and supporting more fully! Go Weber!! Great come from behind win in the Beehive Brawl! Bring that trophy home where it belongs!
