5-0 for the first time ever in Big Sky play for Sac State football

First place tie with MSU with 3 to play

6-2 overall.

Games in Greely are often close.

Congrats for another win and 7th road victory n a row for the Hornets in Big Sky play since the beginning of 2018 season. Huge accomplishment

7th in a row since beginning of 2019 season.

Getting the years mixed up

8th FCS road win in a row counting the victory over Dixie State to open this season.

Yahoo! actually posted stats; they usually don't bother with that for FCS. I'm impressed with the spread in receiving. If you complete passes to a ton of people, it's hard for defenders to gang up on any one person. Impressed once again with Skattebo. Like that we gave up NO picks. Looks like we've shored up special teams; there were only two official UNC punt returns, but with a long of one yard and a total accumulation of -1 yard. We more than doubled up on first downs, which is VERY good. I'd like to shore up third down efficiency (5-14), though defensive 3rd down efficiency was VERY good (UNC converted 4 of 12). We had a relatively clean game (3 penalties vs. 4). Only one turnover is good. Of course, Yahoo isn't showing the drives, but Hornet Sports show that we forced a punt after that fumble. On the other hand, the one fumble we recovered from UNC was converted into a Hornet TD. Yahoo isn't showing defensive stats, either. Per Hornet Sports, Hawkins led all Hornet defenders with 7 tackles. Erickson had the lone sack. We had 6 TFLs and 3 hurries. One point of concern: we only broke up 3 passes, while UNC broke up 8.

27-24 Hornet win. Hornets jumped out to an early lead then kind of slept walked the rest of the way and managed to hold on. A road win is a road win.

Hornet offense was unstoppable on the ground but the passing game was out of sync as the receivers did not have a good day (quite a bit of drops that were costly). Skattebo (16 car, 111 yds, 1 TD, 1 rec, 23 yds) was unstoppable. I thought Taylor dialed up a bit too many passes late in the game, but the difference was the Hornets cashing in a TD on the gift fumble from UNC late in the game.

Hornet defense did well with the exception of defending Dylan Thomas (4 rec, 183 yds). Thomas had 3 big plays that set up each of UNC's TDs. For whatever reason the Hornets could not defend him on the slant/inside post route and it nearly cost the Hornets the game. Erikson's sack on the final drive sealed the game for the Hornets.

Special teams came through and were the difference in the game. Sentkowski's (2/2 FG, 3/3 PAT) FGs were huge and the Hornet coverage teams did not let anything big happen. Gandy had a nice 58 yard kick return as well.

Hornets won't leave the Sac area for the rest of the regular season. As we saw this week, Hornets cannot afford to over look anyone.

So Montana pays UNC in Greeley next week. Anybody else besides me think Montana is going to have a fought time considering they barely beat SUU?

That was a tough game to watch. It never should have been as close as it was. Dunniway had his worst game since very early in the season. Pierre Williams absence really hurt the offense IMO.

Luckily the run game was good and the defense made enough key plays to help hold on for the W.

I agree, worst executed game all year. Maybe Dixie?

Dunniway was dazed and didn't seem polished at all, award went to his head? Skatteboom is a great surprise. Would like to see him break a 60yd scamper and punish the safeties trying to bring him down.

UNC has a very good defense, always gives us fits. If we dont correct that post route UNC ran against us for big yards, and UCFE also uses, we will get burned big time by UCFE. Need to stay focused on four quarters, not sure we would be 6-2 at this point with a tough schedule.

Montana has some serious issues right now. I'd agree with you if this game was in Greeley, however UNC will have a Hornet hangover and I think the Griz win by a couple TDs.

My bad, thought it was in Missoula. Also their SUU game was close because of Bobby's idiotic decision to start an injured Humphrey instead of Brown, and 4 turnovers and 125 yards on 12 penalties certainly didn't help. The Griz play that crappy again and they probably lose at UNC.

UNC highlights. Too bad our AD is too inept to put out a weekly highlight reel.
