Week2 Prediction Thread EWU 35 @ UNI 38 Uggh!

Looking through the stat line and drive chart; Iowa St. scored on all short field opportunities, beyond the 7 - 31 final score the stats for each team were very similar. So, new offense, new coordinator and new QB (used 3 in the game) resulted in low efficiency.

UNI will be READY for Eastern at least mentally and playing at home is a soothing balm to the travails week one. Expect a physical game where UNI (after watching Oregon) spreads out Eastern and runs the ball.

Prediction:
Defense holds UNI to 350 yards total offense
D gets 4-5 stops and causes two pressure TO's and has 6 sacks
West throws for 350+ 4 TD's
Eags run for 170+ and 2 scores
Eags kick 2 FG's
Eag's take a knee to end game

Eags 48-31 over UNI

As good as we looked, and as not so good as UNI looked, I'm still pretty wary of this game, considering 1) UNI beat both NC participants last year, and 2) We've never won in the UNI-Dome.

Time to break that curse.

  • Kupp gets at least 2 more TDs and 140+ yards.
  • Simba Webster gets more involved in the offense, and gets one big play of at least 40 yards.
  • EWU wins 48-31.

UNI changed OC's in the offseason and is switching to a no-huddle pass oriented offense. The problem is they have no proven talent at QB or WR and have to replace all-world RB David Johnson. They also only have two returning starters on the o-line.

Defensively, they should be good with two all americans back at corner and safety, and some experience and talent up front.

Take care of the football play decent on defense and I think we've got this.

We looked good Saturday and they did not. That said they have recently had tremendous defenses and very pedestrian offenses, which should make a great matchup, but I think in this case our O will over come and their Offense will sputter.

Yarp. Looking forward to the Defense making some stops and showing our team speed and aggressiveness. Had a lot of whisker away misses at Oregon, especially the DL, expect them to pin their ears back on 3 and longs, make some stops and create pressure TO's. All our DB's can catch, let's keep Ebukam near the line of scrimmage ;)

One writers opinion;
http://www.thegazette.com/subject/sports/soul-searching-needed-for-uni-after-isu-loss-20150906" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I fear a slight hangover from the track meet that broke out at Autzen last weekend.
That said, EWU establishes a running game and makes the big plays to outpace UNI all game long.

But UNI is no slouch and that's a tough environment. Expect them to make it close in the end.

EWU - 27
UNI - 21

GreatDayToBeAnEagle: Missed you at Coaches Show yesterday, great crowd. Was a track meet, our team played to the best of their ability. Nothing to be ashamed of. Offense was damn good, Defense need a little more work in tackling. Some areas were ok, like Mitch Fettig and some of the D/Line hanging in against those big dudes, #90 Keenan Williams (Cheney), #53 Jonar Jordan,(Mead) #98 Monike Sarte, # 99 JT Tiuli, #91 Samson Ebucam, #68 Jim Townsend (Recruit) and two Running Backs. #20, Sam McPherson, #33 Malcolm Williams Jr. Coach came with Cooper Kupp, and DL Matthew Sommer. Will be at practice today at 4 pm. Vic Wallace

UNI's strength appears to be their experience on defense. Our strength is on offense so that matchup will be interesting. I would expect we will see a lot more balance between run/pass than the Oregon game. Our O-line should be able to protect West and open holes for the run game. As good as our receiving corp and West is it will be difficult to run the ball when we should be able to move the ball through the air.
I feel our defense is better that the 61 points given up in Eugene. It will be interesting to see how they hold the UNI offense. I think we will see more dynamic offenses in league play so this will be a good primer for that.
If we scored 6 times against a Pac 12 team that is ranked in the top 10 nationally I don't see why we can't score 8 times, 2x per quarter, in this game.
I like our overall defensive speed, and physicality of the D-line. As mentioned UNI offense is not their strength and they are having some turmoil at the QB position so I don't see them scoring more than 1x per qtr. I would expect coach Farley will quickly realize they can't trade field goals for TD's so will be forced to go for it on 4th down thus effectively creating a turnover.

I know we are all talkin about how great we looked last Saturday (which is true), but I know Baldwin won't let his guys listen to guys like us. He knows that they need to stay "Humble and Hungry." I love those words coming out of his mouth because the second you believe you're as good as everyone thinks you are, the work ethic goes out the door. This is going to be a battle because it's a home game for UNI and they are ticked. We need to go in there ready, and pound the rock. We threw the ball well at Oregon but we need to out-physical these guys this week. I would love to see 40 carries.

Hope like hell players aren't listening to anyone on this board as we are all certified nutballs living vicariously through them. :D

Agree UNI will come out fired up, their coach was none to pleased with their performance last week. Stick a couple of daggers in 'em while on offense or a big TO early and it could be all she wrote. UNI is a team in transition like SHSU last year. Glad we are catching them early as they will likely right the ship sooner than later. Lots of good predictions. Know the team will stay focused as they are seeking their first victory of the season. Let the games begin.

We are due for a win in the UNI Dome...

I think UNI has an offense that is going to struggle this year with losing their all american tailback.

I think our offense will be just fine this week.

not gunna lie, I am worried sick about this game. So many parallels to the 2011 season and the fact that we have never won in the UNI dome.

To All,
While watching ESPN Sports last night, I clicked on Scoreguide on the bottom of my TV Screen, was surprised to see EWU/UNI set for Sept 12th game, 11:00 a.m. Checked out the guide and found out the game will be broadcast on C-665 Comcast Sport Net Chicago. (Premier Chan). I have Directv. Set my DVR to record. The game will also be broadcast on SWX. Enjoy what decision you make for the game on Saturday. Will go out to see practice at 11:00 am this am. Chartered tomorrow at 0800 a.m. Take off, will be there see team off. Vic Wallace
