We're Number 1 . . .

184, that is, according to the Sagarin preseason rankings in this morning's USA Today. Right below Cornell and right above Dayton.

The rankings apply to all FBS and FCS football teams.

Appalachian State is the highest ranked FCS team at 70. Montana is number 91.

I predict that we will end this season in the 150s.

That's because Sagarin bases his rankings on the last year's team...which is ludicrous. I agree GCM, its also the reason why preseason polls are useless...much like the BCS and their stupid system.

All y'all are correct. Pre-season ratings are stupid, which is why even the bogus B(C)$ doesn't put out a ranking scheme until near mid-season. The same should be done with this. Injuries, graduations, general improvement/falling back, and even just plain luck factor into who's a good team and who's not when it counts.

Incidentally, I see Montana in the 30s and Appy in the 40s. Montana COULD and Appy WILL take out an FBS team this year, so Sagarin's cr@p here is absolutely worthless.

Sagarin is probably the best thing out there, though. As bad as I see them in their ranking of UM and ASU, they're not COMPLETELY anti-FCS. Back in the '90s, they ranked the Big Sky over the then-I-A (now I-AAA) Big West. And given the state of Big West football back then, they were probably right.
