You and me both.

The quest for a three-peat begins! I'm so excited for this season. Do people realize that all four Oregon programs have a chance at the post season this year?

Hey, let's not go overboard! Soccer and volleyball have proven themselves, and women's basketball should by all rights take the conference title. I'm dubious about men's basketball, however. Losing Dominguez was no small thing (he's playing pro down in Mexico this year). We'll see how Waters does. Losing Tiefenthaler didn't help either - he's racking up points with Concordia as I speak. And we have a new coach too. We'll do better than fourth for sure, but taking conference, well, it remains to be seen. Like you, I'd sure like to see us wrap up the whole conference though. No way we could be ignored after that.

Man if the football team continues the way its going, I may have to bump this forum to the top and move the football forum down one. Basketball is clearly the preferred sport at PSU right now. And rightfully so.

Not a good indicator of what to expect this year, but good outside shooting continues. I'm expecting big things from Jones and Harriel after that game. I hope Waters not playing is just a precaution.

Vikings beat Western Oregon 108-65! Oden was even there to check out Portland State. All the JC transfers looked good, as did the freshman Harriel. Only three negatives to this game: One, Waters didn't play, two, the team defense needs to get better and finally, our team is fairly small, which will hurt us at times. Three point shooting looks to be a stong point for the Viks again this season. Overall, good first game performance.

From The Oregonian:

Portland State 108, Western Oregon 65: Nelson, Jones lead Vikings

http://www.oregonlive.com/vikings/index.ssf/2009/11/portland_state_108_western_ore.html

Portland State's Phil Nelson scored 19 points and Melvin Jones added 18 points and five assists, leading the Vikings to a 108-65 victory over Western Oregon in a men's basketball exhibition game Wednesday at the Stott Center in Portland.

Nelson made three three-pointers during an 18-6 run midway through the first half that turned a one-point deficit into a 33-22 lead. The Vikings then outscored the Wolves 15-2 in the closing 4:15 of the half to extend their lead to 53-31.

Phillip Thomas scored 17 points and Austonn Lazoff had 11 for the Vikings, who shot 56.3 percent (40 of 71) from the field, 51.7 percent (15 of 29) from three-point range, and had a 39-34 advantage in rebounds.

Rico Myles finished with 15 points and a game-high seven rebounds, and Gabe Thrash had 10 points to pace the NCAA Division II Wolves from Monmouth.

Next up: Portland State vs. Belmont in Seattle, 4:30 p.m. Nov. 13 (radio on KPDQ 800)

Agreed. A little sloppy at times, but this could have been a 60 point win. Guess we'll see what we're all about again Belmont up in Seattle. I would have liked to have seen us dominate the boards a little more.

Why didn't Guede have more minutes?

Nice showing by the students for a weeknight exhibition game.

Why was Waters not playing? I wasn't able to make the game due to have a million things to do before I leave for San Fran tomorrow...wish I could've gone!

Waters has a hurt shoulder, but it's not serious. It was a precautionary move not to play him tonight and Dom will be heading to Seattle with the rest of the team to play in the tourney.

Are we smaller than last year? I keep thinking that size will hurt us, but it hasn't caught up with us yet.

We lost Coston at 6-8, but we have Tree at 6-8. Something tells me he'll play a little bigger than Coston.
