It was the most intense defense I've seen out of WSU for a long time. We were forcing the tempo for most of the game and it looked good. In the second half, Western State decided that they couldn't run with us and started using most of the shot clock each time down. Western was not that bad. They have a couple of big kids that could be starters on most BSC teams. The guard play was the biggest difference. They have quick guards, but they were undersized and played a bit out of control.
I'm not sure if it means anything, but only one of the new kids didn't get in the game. It may well be, with the injury to Fulton, that we will only have one red shirt this year. Byron was there, but not dressed. He seemed to be walking without a limp. He may be back real soon.
All of the guys we thought would shine, did. Both freshmen looked shaky, at first, but got better as they played more. Royce played the best of the new comers. His D was outstanding and he shot well.
