I looked at their roster and schedule. This will be a more traditional looking team than St Katherine. I think they will play with more of a true center and not the 5 guard lineup we saw with SK. This team will be closer to what we might see in many BSC teams, although not quite the same talent level. It should be a more realistic test for our front court players. Bolomboy, Hajek, and Braxton should show better in this outing.

I would like to see Van Pelt get a little action in this one. I would also like to see Richardson get a little more time on the floor.

After this game, red shirt and rotation decisions will be made. Those things could be modified as the season wears on, but at least the initial choices will be made.

Even though I would like to see the walk-on players get a little time, I don't think that will be happening. It may be too important to get our main rotation players ready to go. Evaluating the walk-on guys will probably remain a function of practices. :coffee:

When Kathy's team tried to press us, we broke it quite easily. I'm hoping that WS tries to press some as well. I'd also like to see them play some zone so that we can work on our zone attack.

It might just be me, but I thought our guys were looking for more transition scoring in that last exhibition. I would like to see that continue. :twocents:

I don't know this for a fact, but a little voice inside my head tells me this Western State team will not be as athletic as St Katherine was. Bigger? Yes. I expect us to score a lot in transition and when we don't have that, pound it inside. Against St Katherine, our defense was inconsistent. I expect to see more intensity on that side of the ball. I also expect to see fewer turnovers. We had twice as many TOs as we should have had. I think that 8 to 10 is an achievable mark. :coffee:

One would think with basketball season bearing down on us, I'd think that there would be far more excitement and enthusiasm on this board. It has resembled a ghost town. Lets pick up the pace a big time.

Should have been here earlier this week...

That is part of the reason why I'm bringing this up. It fun visiting the board and then suddenly everything died.

So, to get things going again (lets jump start this sucker). First, why a 2pm game? Second, what does Western bring to the table to help our team develop and grow? I read that Western had three wins last year. Is this the type of competition the Cats need to help get the season going? To get the program to the next level, I really feel that the Cats need to be playing stiffer competition. Coach Rahe has said that it is extremely tough to get good teams to visit the Dee (and since our athletics department isn't interested in creating revenue through which would could pay lower-level DI's to visit the Dee), why don't the Cats travel more or do 2 for 1s? Yes, I know, what does this have to do with an exhibition game? I just think the Cats can get better teams, i.e. competition, than what we are facing. Even in the exhibition part of the season. And, what is the 2pm game all about? Doesn't athletics want to encourage fans to attend?

I'm pretty sure all of the high school teams were already booked. Something to do with school dances or something. But anywho, I don't really care who the exhibition games are. Every D1 teams plays total garbage for exhibition games.
The 2p.m game makes ZERO sense to me. I would like to hear some reason as to why. Im betting it will hurt attendance BUT WSU doesn't seem to care much about that anyway.

I am sorry it really hard to get overly excited for these games. I think everything that needed to be said was said. I am sure we will be talking on Saturday and Sunday about the exhibition game. Then next week there will be a little buzz when we get word on the redshirts. Wake me up when next Friday arrives.

:werd:

I may or may not attend tomorrow, that's how damn excited I am.

I looked into the 2 p.m. start and I have found nothing indicating why the game is scheduled to start at that time. Like Webergrad, I find it really hard to get excited about crap teams. We played Western St. a couple of years ago for an exhibition and it was a fairly good game. I think the Cats only won by 20. We will see what happens tomorrow. It has already been pointed out, but Western St. is a terrible program.

Regarding the 2 p.m. game time, I had looked at the calendar when it was first released, and it said 7 p.m. game time, but I looked this last week and suddenly it's 2 p.m. No idea when that change happened.

I heard that the 2:00 PM start time is related to volleyball having a game that same evening, and not having enough game administration people to cover both at the same time. It's damn hard to get volunteers these days.

...but...volleyball and women's basketball played at home at the same time last night...

That is what I heard. It seems a bit suspicious to me as well. It could be just one or two people who have a conflict with men's basketball only, and not the women's game. I know of a few people who work one and not the other. Some work more than one sport. Conflicts don't happen often, but they do happen. A league volleyball game must have taken priority over an exhibition basketball game. I can live with it, as infrequently as it happens. :coffee:

Don't tell Weberski that women's volleyball bumped men's basketball.

Wait a minute.......... This, just coming in........

"It was, actually, Weberski who caused the conflict in the first place!" That from a reliable source on this forum!

Oh, the humanity! :o

I think Weberski has a very important synchronized swimming meet to attend tomorrow evening.

I'm sorry, I was expecting a little more out of this game. I didn't see a team that was ready for Utah State or other competitive D1 schools.

We should be fine in conference play, but besides a couple of cupcakes, not sure how we will compete out of conference. Looks like Rahe has an eight man rotation, wasn't really impressed after the starters. Joel played well, very well, but he's probably going to have to play through double teams and lead us every night! Was hoping to see our bench, but it didn't materialize.
