What are your expectations for the program?

My expectations for this year were VERY low to begin with, BUT I didnt expect to get our asses kicked at home by SUCK ST. :bad:
I personally think that Bovee should definitely be taking heat because he is the guy at the top when the football program collapsed yet again.
On a side note, which team is worse? this current team or Graybeals last team?

Worst loss that season was a 51-7 beat down by Eastern. We probably will see that this weekend.

I'm with you 100%, Bovee is to blame for this mess. He is the Admiral of the ship. It is sinking, he needs to stay with his ship.

Easily, this is the worst team I have ever seen at Weber State.

Just a quick comparison between 2004 team and this years team:
Points against 2004=34ppg 2013=50.8ppg
Points for 2004=18ppg 2013=14ppg
2004=-16 :thumbdown:
2013=-36.4 :thumbdown: :thumbdown:

I guess I have my answer to which team sucks worse. :ohno:

If it wasn't for me having season tickets I would not be going to anymore games year but I have the tickets and I don't to waste them so I will be there. I just hope things get better after the EWU game.

And again I repeat... It is because of Bovee that we have all the current updates. It was his friendship through Bon Marguart that WSU got the $1 Million gift. Bovee has updated all the athetic brand/logos. He has managed to get enough money in play to keep Rahe here. Also, how are you going to Blame Bovee for tough schedule? WSUalumni, get a freaking idea. Yeah, getting beat by both usu/utah sucked. Both we got paid. That was the point. Maybe you can fork out the $400k needed, so we don't have to play those types of games. Without the body bag games, there is no Sears, no players and no team. It's that simple dude. Under Bovee's direction, all the athletic upgrades have occurred. Therefore, he gets the credit. Who else deserves the credit wsualumi? Clearly not you and haters like you. When is the last time you heard of an AD getting fired for strictly a heads coach win/loss colum? It's completely the other way around. I suppose we might as well fire the new school president while we are at right? And yeah, playing in-state schools is fun for the fans, players and recruits. Yeah losing sucks, but that's part of the game. I didn't see anyone complaining last time we played usu/utah in football. We happened to have a down year this season, and caught both utah and usu on up years. That's tough for us, and great for them. We have to play teams regardless if we are playing well or not. Isn't this why so maybe posters are hating the Utah bball team? WSUalumni... Please, grow up. :thumb:

Yes Bovee did get do some good updates, but that is his one of the main responsibilities as the AD isn't it? And I think some of what was promised is still missing/being pushed back for various reasons. He has made updates though but thats what needed to happen. Bovee does deserve the heat he is getting and lets not forget about the academic issues and other off field issues that have happened during his tenure. That also falls on Bovee's shoulders. Yes not 100% on his shoulders but he is responsible for pretty much everything concerning athletics. That's what comes with the territory.

And by the way Utah is definitely not on an "up" year. I've seen much better U teams in recent memory.

Exactly.

Yes, 'WSUfan', your loving admiration for AD Bovee isn't lost on me. As I replied to your much earlier comments of how fun it was to watch Weber play at the instate big boys in football: "...you might be breathing in too much of that purple smoke you love at the home football games!..." Speaking of that, I was going to mention at the first of the season, that putrid purple smoke that's used for gassing the team/coaches as they run out onto the field just might be part of the problem on losing home football games :rofl: Last year I was in the stands behind that spot, unfortunately down wind and along with a few other nearby Montana fans, were left gasping/gagging a bit (didn't mind seeing the UM fans suffer some, though) :rofl:
As far as AD Bovee, I'm not a hater, like some things he's done and found some sense in his decisions on the head football coach situation these last two years (not his fault John L. cut & run, creating a mess). His other coaching hire decisions? Sorry, but not proving successful. Can argue with you forever about it not being fun watching the FBS beat downs each year, and I'm talking football, not basketball! I'm quite grown up and remember years ago a nice guy football HC getting fired over losses, after the booster club finally had enough and pressured the Pres. to move out the unresponsive AD & fire the coach! The facts & records say it all. Get those purple tinted glasses you look thru adjusted, 'WSUfan', and you'll read plenty of complaining posts to your like or dislike. Yours, at times I beg to differ with and have a tough time understanding occasionally, maybe some proofreading might help. Enough said. :wall:

Bovee is a great director in so many aspects. I love his ability to get improvements done and his willingness to interact with fans. The only questionable thing I have seen him do is keep Sears after last season; but, how many coaching changes do you need in one year? I trust he will make the right move. It's not like the guy makes a million and has a Pac-12 budget.

Bovee has clearly shown he is incompetent in the most important part of his job, hiring head coaches. Obviously Lucifer never should have been hired. But even if you give him a pass on that debacle, bringing back Sears is inexcusable. Did he even watch a game last season? And don't even get me started on Ord.

Who cares about women's basketball?

I do. I rarely make an effort to go watch a game but when there is one played before the men's game I'll usually try and get there early enough to see a good portion of it. I want to see Weber have success in ALL sports and seeing the UM women kick Weber's can year-after-year isn't any fun either. WBB having dismal season after dismal season is not good for the athletics program. Having a daughter who's a talented bball player and would like to play for Weber makes their continued non-success very disappointing. Success breeds success and don't think for a minute that name recognition, even between the different sports, doesn't help across the board.

I want everyone to know, I AM A FAN OF JERRY BOVEE. However, there have been some instances on this forum lately where he has received credit for things when he shouldn't have. The indoor facility was finalized by Bovee and thankfully so. Gratefully, he had the foresight to work with current Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell, while he was still in charge of the ice rink to work out a deal with the county, city, and university to have the new addition added. Also, he deserves some kudos for the new strength and conditioning plaza being built inside the complex. He was able to procure the necessary donations for the project. However, Coach Mac was the individual who got the ball rolling and had the initial idea for the indoor facility. Also, we need to give Mike Caldwell a lot of credit because he was the one who made it possible.

Field Turf...yes, a lot of the credit for making it happen does fall into Bovee's lap, but field turf had been in the works since Mac first became the coach. However, Bovee made it happen. He definitely deserves the credit.

Lights and handicap accessibility Jerry Graybeal. Those projects were in the works before Bovee came on board. Hiring coach Rahe...Jerry Graybeal. Dee improvements Jerry Graybeal and Coach Rahe. Keeping Rahe around? Well, not to point things out, but nobody has really offered him a job somewhere else. By the weren't a lot of your crapping and moaning about Rahe after the ECU game? I still can't believe how many "fans" on this board were angry after a 30 win season.

Other improvements of the stadium, bathrooms. Well d'uh that had to happen, but yes...Bovee.

No matter how the coaches have performed, Jerry is a good administrator. Is he perfect? No. He doesn't hire the best coaches, but do you blame him for who he has hired? Tom Peterson won two NCAA DI Men's Volleyball Championships at BYU and Penn State. Every team he has been a part of has been winners. But this is his third year. We should be seeing improvements; especially since most of his girls are back. Ord, was a very successful assistant coach at Louisville and is known for her recruiting prowess. However, 1 win in two seasons is hard to swallow. I'm hoping this season things start to fall into place for her. John L...WE WERE ALL EXCITED. And I'm thinking it would have been a lot better with John L as our coach. I know the players would be a lot tougher and they would be far more fundamentally sound under John L. Hell, he was a hard rear. Sears, after the sudden departure of Smith was the natural choice. Regrettably, there was a lot more talent last year than this year on the team. If you are going to run the ball as much as he does, why the F did he recruit sooo many WRs? You need linemen!! Mac is a great paragon of how to rebuild a football program. Fix the situation in the trenches first and then find your skill players. Sears has gone about this totally backwards. Anyway, final hire is our new softball coach. I think that that was a good choice. She has made SLCC into a perennial power house. By he way, softball HAD to be reinstated due to Title IX. But getting a stadium was a nice addition for the girls. However, if it hadn't been required by Title IX, softball never would have been reinstated. In all actuality, Men's Soccer and Men's Hockey would be the natural choices. They both are money makers, if it wasn't for Title IX, they'd both be NCAA sanctioned sports here at Weber State. Oh well.

I'm frustrated by this team. I was hoping for more and it hasn't happened. Sometimes it is best to wait things out and see what can happen in the future. Sears is here now, so lets hope for the best. This is the worst season since the stadium was expanded. With all the team has been given in the past decade, and the support athletics has received from the institution lets all hope Sears can get this right. If he doesn't it could be the end of both his and Bovee's careers. No matter how much an AD has done for a school, if he destroys a money maker he will be shown the door.

I don't post much in the football forum. I already gave enough as a student. Anyway, I think Doug Robinson has written the op-ed of the decade. We are SO damn obsessed with sports. Colleges business is to educate. USU is cutting instructors and professors, but they are finishing a multi-million dollar strength and conditioning facility, and yet their athletics programs are subsidized by us, the Utah State Tax Payers. That subsidy isn't small either, 64%, same as Weber, unfortunately. Yet, Weber isn't cutting back on academic like USU is. Our schools are losing their minds over sports. Do the benefits out weigh the costs? I'm rolling my eyes over some of the comments on this thread. I want to ask something that we should all think about. Why isn't Mac still our coach? He is still coaching for the Blaze. So evidently he didn't want to stop coaching, so why isn't he here at Weber? He wasn't going anywhere and was still bringing in talent. I'll tell you why. Because of us the fans. We wanted more and more and more. I had an interesting conversation with an administrator once about Mac, which I am more than ashamed of now. I think it is absolutely idiotic, now, to have let him leave. Especially since he wanted to come back for his last year. Think of what he could have done with last years team. I'm thinking Weber could have contended for a conference championship. The 2011 team was young and hungry, then Lucifer comes in and cuts a bunch of Mac's boys to make a point but still had the kids playing at a high level. Now Mac and Lucifer are elsewhere and we are stuck with Sears. He is doing his best, but isn't a head coach. I do commend Sears for his work ethic, but the kids aren't tough, they aren't fundamentally sound, and they are playing out of position all over the place. The wrong schemes are being run with the players we have. A good head coach would change their program to fit the talents of his athletes. If you are going to run the ball so much go to an I formation get a FB Finai, and run with a heavy back Bolen the majority of the time. Use the I to open up the passing game. Wrong schemes, wrong players, wrong coaches. Whatever my expectations for the program are better framed in Doug Robinson's piece.

I think you hit it right on the head, sir. I believe for the most part, we've seen a lot of improvement in WSU Athletics thanks to Bovee and his staff. You can't be perfect, but I think when the new coaching search begins after this season, he will find someone to right the football ship. :thumb:

the sad part is it feels like it was just 5 minutes ago we were competing for the opportunity to win the big sky's first ever back to back titles in both sports! wow, times change quickly.

2008-09: 1st place football; 1st place bball
2009-10: 2nd place football; 1st place bball
2010-11: 3rd place football; 3rd place bball

Only 4 times has a team won both titles in the same yr , weber griz and msu I think.

Weber: 1968, 2008 - twice.

The Big Sky does not recognize Weber as Big Sky football champ in 1987 - lame. So football as 1965, 1968, 2008. we won the big sky in 1965 in bball but that would have been the 1964 football season.
