What exactly happened at ISU since '05?

I don't understand what happened at ISU. Prior to the 2006 season it looked like things were good. What has happened since? How did the program get to its current state?

2005: 5-6
2004: 3-8
2003: 8-4
2002: 8-3
2001: 4-7
2000: 6-5

The last season with less than 3 wins was way back in 1993. 2006 to current is a dramatic drop off.

USU has been in a similar situation, W/L wise, they were able to compete in the Big West then went independent when the BW dropped fball. They haven't recovered since, or at least seem to be finally improving. No winning seasons since they left the BW 15 yrs ago; last 5 win season was 10 yrs ago. They got in the WAC 5 yrs ago.
 
allow me to elaborate:

we hired a DII caliber coach, with DII caliber schemes, and DII caliber ethics who made this a DII caliber team.

...oh and then we renewed him, based on the logic that if he's to show that he can do anything (at this point i would take just not loosing by 20+ points per game as doing something) in this conference he needs at least 4 years to so.

unfortunately we had a corrupt AD fire a good coach back in 2006, a hiring panel who was apparently swooned by an NFL record and a (sweet) mustache, and a puppet AD renew a coach who would finish his original contract at 5-29 (that's 5 wins...and 29 loses!).

maybe when he finishes this season at 6-39 he will resign so we can start getting back to competing in the big sky.
 
please don't take what tigersmilk says as all fact..

see he holds a grudge against the coach/program (i think he got ran off the team)...
