I have resigned myself to the fact that this season is lost. Yes, I have been the eternal optimist but after today's game, all is lost. Actually all was lost after the PSU game.
Lets look foward to next year. All of Earlywine players are gone. The ENTIRE team is Hayfords. And he has had an entire season to work with the "young" players.
Next year if we do not see at least a winning conference record who's to answer for that?
The following year, if we do not contend for conference championship the following season, who's to answer for that?
I agree with "clawman" and the points that "eagle1" listed. Not an excuse for the season, but I think that youth is a part of the inconsistency issues. But I think this team will win Big Sky Championship(s). Look at what we have:
1) Tyler Harvey, wow, he has shown that he can handle point and score (A BUNCH!)
2) Martin Seiferth, athletic big man, need to design (modify) an offense that gets him the ball.
3) Venky Jois, super-athletic forward that will be at least a double/double the next three years.
4) Parker Kelley, high energy, 3-point threat and a leader.
5) Thomas Reuter, another athletic forward, diamond in the rough, with offensive and defensive capabilities.
6) Daniel Hill, true point guard that will relieve Tyler Harvey of the point responsibilities, so Harvey can create and score (a CRAP LOAD of points).
7) Frederik Jörg, GIANT person who's game will improve significantly, and will have a cast of teammates that will get him the ball.
8) Red shirts just waiting for their chance.
9) Coach Hayford (and assistants) who given the chance will prove that he IS the coach for EWU.
I'M BUYING SEASON TICKETS FOR NEXT YEAR!!
