What happens if...

Theoretically, the Bears are entering their most winnable stretch of the season. Idaho State is the only team with a winning record and that record is suspect because two of the teams were D2. That leaves UC Davis (1 win), Weber State (winless), and North Dakota (3 wins, 1 conference win).

What happens if the Bears win out and finish with a 5-3 conference record and a 6-5 overall record? Does Collins keep his job?

Because, corroborating what PlayerParent has reported, I have heard that a number of the good young players are talking transfer if Collins manages to keep his job.

Good question. My question is this: why would those younger player leave IF Collins is retained? They were recruited by this staff.

I predict a 6-5 finish and it will be well deserved as I know how hard these young men have worked to bring winning back to UNC. Makes me think how close we could have been to 8-3 with Sac State and UNLV that should have been wins. Might even have beaten EW last week had it not been for another blocked punt turned in to points.

And of course he keeps his job at 6-5 and should. I am a rabid fan and understand allot of the frustrations expressed here but remember this is just football. And there are young men on this team who's brothers are deployed oversees fighting our real enemies who risk not coming home so that we can live in freedom and watch their brothers play on Saturdays. Lets keep that in perspective and pray they all come home safe and that our Bears do win out.

The transfer talk is just that talk. I know some who that has been attributed to and I know their dads and they aint leavin! Too risky to jump around. Ask BB.

Go Bears!!

If they win all those games of course he keeps his job... in fact I'd guess just winning that NAU game will be enough... this new AD doesn't seem the type to drop the hammer he seems pretty soft from what I've heard/seen. :twocents:

My guess would be he keeps his job then.

After reading the forum this whole season and following the games, from my point of view, Collins keeps his job either way. The team has improved too much for him to lose his job, and I am sure the AD sees that with the win over NAU and the other games they have been close in.

With that, I agree, a lot of the younger kids/kids with a few years of eligibility left will most likely transfer. Just from what I've seen on the board not many of the players respect him or care to play for coaches on his staff.

I agree. The team is much improved. I believe Coach Collins will, and should, keep his job. It's hard to change the culture of a program, but he is making progress. This is a young team, and I believe in them. Go Bears!

Are you kidding? Collins should not have a head coaching job. There is no progress. He made progress from year 1 to 2 but has been a complete failure since then. He has only gone backwards since then. I hope this AD does the right thing and fires him and his whole staff.

Dunn needs to clean house. The bears have been in some close games because this team has some young studs out there. My only hesitation in firing the staff would be that with all these young athletes losing the staff that brought them in, it does make for a tough transition with new coaches. It is imperative to keep in mind that these are very young men out there sinking their heart and soul into their passions and that their overall well being should be a primary concern. I'm not saying keep Collins around for the sake of a existing players, that would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. But I don't believe that when Collins came in that the concern of the existing players was even part of the conversation. I know that some of the athletes making that transition from Downing's coaching staff into the Collins era back in 2011 really fell by the way-side, and that was a team coming off a season with multiple losses by less than 3 points. That was a team about to turn the corner, and I do not feel that way about the squad they have out there right now.

I do not believe that there has been nearly enough progress for Collins to keep him job, at all.

Given the respect level these young players have for this coaching staff (in particular the head coach) they would certainly welcome and embrace a change with little to no hesitation! I'm sure they expected (and deserve) a higher level of professionalism than what they are getting. I'm confident a better hire after Downing would have resulted in a better year one and every year after than what we got! Do it now or it only get worse from here!

None of this will matter if we win our last three games, and that's a real possibility. So...is anyone actually hoping we lose these games to a coaching change might happen?

HELL NO! No one (besides the opposing team and its fans) should wish that our team loses. The players work too hard for that, and their "fans" should back THEM. Go Bears! 3-0

I agree. It was just a question I was throwing around. If we win our last three games, it does show an improvement and Collins SHOULD keep his job.

As much as everyone wants to see a coaching change, I don't think anyone wants to wish or see us lose. Let the cards play out and justification will take its course.

In my perfect world the Bears finish out 3-0 and Collins is still replaced. I don't really feel that winning the next 3 games over the other 3 bottom feeders in the Big Sky should be considered progress. It just means you are at the top of the bottom feeder food chain. This team has way too much talent for it to continue to be acceptable to remain at the bottom of the pack year in and year out. What's the definition of insanity- doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? This is 6 years in a row of Collins being the head coach of a program and he has yet to have a winning season. Are you all really OK with continually being mediocre to piss poor? I'm sorry, but it has become painfully obvious that he is not the right man to lead this program.

Fair point.
