D'Shawn Schwartz and Tyler Bey ended up at Weber State. Bey, in all actuality might be quite the stretch, but Schwartz isn't. Schwartz is the top player in Colorado and a 4 Star recruit. He sports a number of offers, but has been holding an offer from Weber State for almost two years. We were one of the first programs to offer and we have done an exceptional job of cultivating a relationship with the kid. He is a 6-7 wing who can score in a number of ways. Yes, the chances of actually signing Schwartz aren't amazing, but getting him in for a visit would be a step in the right direction and would show us that signing him could happen. He has offers from Colorado, Colorado State, VCU, Rice, Memphis, UNLV, USU and of course our Weber State Wildcats.
Bey is a 6-7 big who would end up being a guy like Mook, yet far more talented offensively. Someone who can play above the rim, dribble and pass exceptionally, and can score anywhere on the court. He is a strong kid and is highly athletic and skilled. He has 24 offers (6 P5 programs) as of right now, so, the chances of actually signing him are almost impossible, but we have been recruiting him for a long time and have a relationship with the kid.
What keeps us in the game for some of these top recruits is Coah Rahe's ability to create and maintain relationships. He is honest with the player and his parents. He doesn't tell them what they want to hear, but explains what they need to know. Success proves he knows what he is talking about. It helps knowing that Weber has had two kids drafted into the NBA, one an All-NBA guy/All-Star, and two other guys getting significant mins on major European teams. Finally, he has graduated virtually every guy who has come through the university. We play good basketball and win.
Even though, I figure that Coach will probably only sign one kid this Fall -maybe two or possibly three guys; we really only have 1 scholarship available; Brekkott and Riley Court are taking two of the three that will be available after this season- that puts some pressure on Coach to get the best guy when the offered recruits list is long and deep with talent.
Other guys who would be great signees:
Jaizec Lottie
Nigel Shadd
Darien Jackson
Tydus Verhoeven
Samuta Avea
Sebastian Much
Josip Vrankic
Walter Prevost
Doc Nelson
This class has some scary good players in it. I wouldn't doubt seeing 2 get signed. That means someone on scholarship might not be in the future.
