What is everyone's affiliation with UNC?

Hey guys, my name is Mike, I'm the new guy around here, I just started school at the fine Greeley campus (freshman year) about a month ago. I figured I should try and get my name out there and meet some of you folks and find out how everyone is affiliated with the Bears. I've been a diehard CU guy my whole life, but have always rooted for the Bears, now I have to wear a mix of and black and gold and blue and gold each Saturday.

Graduated from UNC in 1994. Now employed in Maryland (in the same career field as my degree from school believe it or not).

I graduated from UNC in '96. My advice to you is to yuck it up while you can--I still look back on my time at UNC with great fondness.

Welcome to the board Mike.

I graduated from UNC in 2002. My mom and went to UNC, my brother, wife and sister went to UNC. Needless to say we bleed blue and gold. I also grew up watching UNC athletics in the 80's, especially watching basketball (Mike Higgins was awesome!).

I agree with jjj. Value your time at UNC. It's a great school.

Good point. I had more fun in college than any other time in my life (though I am happier now with my wife who I met at UNC and our 2 kids, if that makes any sense).

I'm currently a student at UNC (a junior) and both of my parents went there. We're UNC diehards at my house, and I've never missed a game at Nottingham.

I graduated in 2006. For sure have a blast in Greeley, there is so much more to do there now than when I was there.

Hell graduating in 1994, my first dorm isn't even there anymore (McCowen hall). Of all the nice things that are there now, it's sad to see Club Bentley (in the UC) gone.

I echo everyone else on this post. Welcome aboard and enjoy your time at UNC. I'm a '71 alum and saw the transition fron CSC to UNC. It was a great time in my life and I look back on it fondly. I always look forward to coming back to UNC for Homecoming. It looks like the Bears are getting back on track.

1971 Graduate also. Played Tennis for CSC - UNC. SIster also a graduate and National Champions in Tennis at UNC in 1981. Have always been a big fan of the football and wrestling program at UNC. Previously ran the website UNCBearsSports.

Your pictures on the website were appreciated and are missed. I won't go into the issues again on what all happened but it is too bad to lose that. :x

I must be one of the oldest on this site. I graduated in "68" and my ties go way back to CSC now UNC. My dad and uncles all played basketball and football for the Bears in the 30's and 40's. I grew up watching the CSC teams play since my dad had a lifetime pass to all the games. My dad became a farmer and actually farmed the site that is now the West Campus. As a teenage kid I used to help my dad with the farming on the site that is now Nottingham Field. It used to be our pinto bean field and I would spend my summers driving a tractor up and down those rows of pinto beans. There used to be a lake on the site were the library is now. My friends out here in Washington can't understand how I can be such a good fan of UNC sports, but my ties go way back and I support the team even in the down years.

That is some history that is great to keep ahold of.

There is an aerial picture of that area from about 1962 on the UNC archeives site someplace that is very interesting.

Found it.

Wow, Bud that is truly amazing. I believe they need to do a better job here on educating the history of the University.. Only "history" I know about is the success of the program in the 90's.. And that was from my own knowledge, they barely have scratched the surface on anything else.. I would be very interested in finding out more about this school from the historical standpoint.. Also, great picture blofield... I'm guessing the empty space is west campus?

Yes, you are looking north along 11th ave. The area to the east of 11th that is open is where the UC now stands, southeast open area is where McCowen had stood, Nottingham would be on the far left or west side... I believe this is from about 1956.

At the far bottom of the shot you can see the shopping center that is still there.

Not sure exactly what is in there now but it used to be the Smiling Moose, now Pitchers, and whatever is in that strip mall. There used to be a big liquor store... Not that I ever went there or anything.

Current Student, in my last year, transferred to UNC. My dad graduated from UNC, and I am looking to do so too. Been a bears fan since I was little, love going to their games more so than CSU or even CU, and I only live about a few blocks from the football field.

I should be graduating this December I love the Bears even though since I have been going to school here our athletics havent done so good. But at least I got to see Vincent Jackson and Reed Doughty a couple times. I think one of the biggest things we need at UNC is some kind of tradition before or after every UNC football game. Something that will bring more people out to the games and bring out more pride in the students.

Well, tailgating is a good start, and when the bears win at home they sing the fight song (which nobody knows) to the fans...Downing started that one, so they have done it a grand total of one time. Back in they day tailgating was always full.

The number one tradtional weakness that I think we have is the fact that nobody knows the fight song, and the fight song lyrics are sketch and dont match the music...seriously who has a line about being fair in their fight song?!?!
