What is our offense

Again...after watching the Cats lose to a Hawaii team they should have beaten I'm asking myself, what on earth is our offense. Four guys standing around the 3pt line with a high screen and no movement? No cutting, no off the ball moving, just standing waiting for someone to make a play. Even though the zebras were especially terrible last night it doesn't make up for Weber's lack of offense. At one point, the Cats got a steal have a 2 on 1 and took a 3? WHAT ON EARTH? Get the easy bucket.

From what I saw of the game, Weber State did better with their drives to the basket. Instead of sticking with penetrating the key and finding easy buckets, they decided to chuck 3s. It’s basically what led Hawaii to come back. Too many 3s attempted when the team wasn’t hitting them. 12/20 free throws is pretty bad as well. They faded down the stretch…at least they weren’t down 20, so that is something. I’m concerned this team might be middle middle or lower middle than upper middle in the Big Sky. No illusions of being anywhere near the top.

MIDDLE is it for our men's FB/BB teams in the BSC for the foreseeable future it seems. Probably OK with those in charge but not exciting to watch. Season tickets for me are a thing of the past in both.

Will say that while the Big Sky is a tough football conference in FCS, looking quite weak in BB as a low-mid major going against the high majors...seems most are getting rolled. Stay'in in your lane I guess, but Wildcats just might make it a little higher landing in BSC come March. Tourney winner will probably have a play-in (1st round) game.

I was reading something the other day about bball post offense. Weber is one of the worst in the nation when comparing points scored vs point allowed. We are getting killed. Tanner Christensen destroyed us the other night. 20 in the first half. Then on the other end not much a post game at all. It appears that Threatt will be the dynamic scorer we need, But who else will step up? Koehler is really struggling and that could be due to health issues. So we can give him a pass. I'm hoping he's able to get back to last years level. They can sure use him. The outside shooting has been a real struggle and hope this turns around quickly.
I've also noticed that several other Big Sky schools are actually doing quite well when playing at bigger schools. Eastern, Montana, Northern Colorado and MSU have all looked better against good competition than the Wildcats.
Like others here have mentioned its time to turn the athletic department upside down. We haven't been to the NCAA in mens bball since 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats such a long time. Too long. If we don't make it this year, which I don't' expect, I believe its time for a changel The same with football. Hill leaves and the once proud fb team takes a nosedive. It won't be an easy recovery. Hill took over a dead program and took it to levels before unseen. Mental was handed the keys to one of the best programs in the country, top 10 every year and competing for a national championship. In 2 years we're at the bottom of the leauge.
The thing that drives me nuts is the in house hiring. Weber seems to take the easy way out. It's time for the President of the University to step in and make some changes. Otherwise we'll continue to see NO championships, little to no attendance and lots of apathy.

Some good points, my downplaying early BSC teams games focused on a few drubbings like Montana losing by 31 & Wildcats by 28 to the Oregon's & 30 to Nevada; there have been a few close loss games but haven't seen any amazing wins? It's early but Wildcats seem to continue playing some questionable offense. It's no longer showcasing DJ, could it be a Randy Rahe 2.0 coaching style? No hate on HC Duft, I wish him success.

Talking administration, you should emphasize Pres. Mortenson stepping in...VP Norm Tarbox made picking inside hires the style when he named Crompton the acting then permanent AD. Stated that he was the best option from a national search????? This fan thinks some outside new blood is needed to bleed purple. Just my opinion.

Having watched that game, you saw all of the phantom calls and no call in the second half. There was no way that those officials were going to allow a UH loss. It was a payday game for us, a team building vacation, and a totally winable game. We played better than them and deserved the win. We didn't get the W, but we got everything else. We will see similar officiating on the road in the BSC. I thought our guys handled it well. We are playing 10 and 11 guys regularly and that will pay off late in the season. That is one of the gripes fans have had over the past 20 years. Now that it is actually happening, they are complaining about that. People like to bitch.

Oldrunner part of me admires your optimism. Honestly, I want to see coaches succeed…but they do have to show signs of improvement. As the old saying goes, “You can hope in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first.” Hoping Mental improves while the crap keeps piling up (my God we lost to Northern Colorado for homecoming!!) isn’t going to change things. At the end of the day, we are left holding crap 💩!

There used to be expectations. Abegglin wanted to win in state games! He wanted fans to get excited and geared up. That’s how butts got in the seats. Cravens had an undefeated conference schedule and ended up being canned a few years later when losing records happened (not as many cupcakes on the schedule back then). There were expectations to win the conference or be near the top. Now hover in the middle and stay out of the headlines for off field issues and you can coach as long as you want.

You could see immediate improvement when Hill took over. He went 2-10 first year but they were in every game and setting up the program to improve. Rahe brought excitement when he took over and tried to get students and crowd fired up. After the 8 year contract, his malaise set in. Now the only games that count is the 1-2 games we play in the tournament in Boise. Everything else is a good tune up.

This mentality needs to be replaced with an administration that cares. Otherwise, I want on the gravy train. I’ll take a coaching position and keep saying I have to improve things every press conference or just say the team will learn and grow. Honestly, I’d probably be better at arguing with officials or getting on players…that line up offside on a freaking FG!

I hope bball improves. Hawaii game was home cooking, but we make more than 60% of free throws or take a drive to the basket on a fast break vs pulling up for 3 and it would have been a win.

No it wouldn't have been a win. There simply would have been more phantom calls or no calls until a UH win was insured. It happens and we all have to live with it.

Ok by that logic, I can rest assured that a win is in the bag vs UC Irvine on Friday. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a feeling this will be a “valuable experience” loss.

UCI could win. They are quite good this year. I think it will be a good game. I'm hoping we defend our home floor. All of our preseason games are valuable experience. Only one team gets to call themselves BSC champions and only one team will represent the BSC at the dance. We have not been picked to win it all, but our coaches and team are shooting for March, not November. Four games in, I am not ready to call it a lost cause. If you want to make fun of me for that, go right ahead.
