What is WSU doing to get butts in the seats?

As I drove past the stadium today,I thought to my self that question. What is WSU doing to get people to the games? I really hope that this season the marketing increases. I think that with a few things done, attendance will increase dramaticly! I think that pre-games festivities are a must. More than just tailgating. Making improvements to the stadium will help... ie; bathrooms, consession stands ect. Half time entertainment would also help... The band is pleasant to watch, but not the whole 15 minutes... Bring in people that sing or do acts.... The smoke and team introduction needs to be brought back...fun music and play cool clips on the video board... I can't see why with the team we have, we aren't averaging at least 17,500 people a game! I hope things are done on campus too... Students need to be aware of games!
I think that marketing is lacking this season... Yes, I have seen the billboard and pocket schedules around, but there has to be more done than that... Thoughts, ideas or comments?

WARNING!!!!! Those of you who post on this post be VERY careful. There are those among us who have been black listed by certain members of the WSU athletic office just because we have stated our opinions on this very fan board. So unless you would like the same treatment I admonish you to keep things "positive" and to not point the finger at those at WSU who clearly are doing a piss-poor job. WSU is perfectly happy averaging 6,500 people to a game and that isn't going to change. And they certainly DO NOT want the loyal fans help in increasing attendance, believe me, several of us have volunteered to help. I agree that with this team and Coach and population base WSU should average 15k+ but that would require change and work.
Oh hell, I'm afraid I have already said too much, I may end up on the missing persons list soon....

No offense WSUfan, but this is a worn out topic. It's not our jobs to market for the athletic department, and because no one who matters listens, offering opinions on helping with said marketing is a worthless cause. The knuckleheads in the athletic department don't listen to fans. Isn't it clearly obvious that they don't care what we think. The only thing we as fans can do is to make sure we are supporting the coaches and student athletes by being at the games and spreading the word to our family and friends.

Here we go again...................... This is about the 100th thread on this forum talking about the same thing. Some here on this board have met with people in the athletic dept to address this issue, and nothing happened. Many of us have offered to pass out posters, pocket schedules, given ideas and suggestions and most of them have fallen on deaf ears. I know for a fact that people do get "black listed". I am now known as Ahkmed the dead terrorist and am posting from an undisclosed location. I have to move on a daily basis, change routes to places that I haunt, change costumes regularly, and have a new cell number every week in an effort to not be found.

new to the site, but it does irritate me that WSU and Coach Mac put out a good product, an exciting team who has proven themselves over the years.....why are the seats so empty?

i know that this has been rehashed time and time again, but something good has to come out eventually don't you think so? isn't our new AD ready to move forward and make the changes to fill more seats.

more seats = more revenue = more support = more viability? doesn't it?

This topic comes and goes. Usually about 2-3 times a year. I don't recall ever posting any of my view points on the issue but it wasn't so long ago I remember both venues having outstanding attendance. Especially basketball. At the old Wildcat Gym which was in the 1960s and 1970s I don't ever remember going to a game and seeing any vacant seats.

WSUfan...this proves that you are just like us, concerned, irritated, but a hopeful fan. Keep trying!!! What you need to do is get involved with the Purple Pak, WSUSA, or Young Alumni Association. Also, you need to get as many of your family and friends to take in a game (just make sure they use the bathrooms on the west side or they might never come to another game). If they do, they will most likely, want to come to more. I know that my ideas aren't wanted, so I decided to go to other places to voice my concerns and provide service for the university.

What do you mean by that "Tal"?

Hey Wildcat Fans! My name is Porter Rappleye and I am brand new to the WSU athletic Marketing staff. I know you all are now clenching your fists with anger and hate because you are talking with someone in athletics, but hear me out. I want you to know that if there was any time to have your voice heard it is now. Our new athletic Director, Jerry Bovee, is desperately trying to implement change. It's not going to happen over night and we really need your help. I want you to keep voicing you positive and NEGATIVE criticism (We'll try not to blacklist any of you). I realize that fans are getting irritated with the fact that their voices have not been heard....EVER!!! But I sincerely believe you will begin to see positive changes with the game atmosphere and fan attendance. I will be checking this website often to see what fans are saying, and finding out what they want. For those of you who want to contact me directly or come to my office to express criticism or help generate marketing ideas, please call me at 801-626-6760. I would love to talk with anyone who is willing to help!!

Go Wildcats!

Porter, I believe that there are vouchers for free tickets to the game on Sept 11th. Is this a fact or just a rumor. If it is fact, how do I get some? I could give out about 50 of them to people who would attend. You can PM me with the answer if you would like.
Thanks!

Put a schedule poster on every entrance to every building on campus. Put fliers on cars parked in the parking lot on a Thurs. and Friday. Dont give the students any reason to not know a bout the games!!! Send an email to every student account about the games. Tell the public what your goals are, what your mission is, and use some of the ideas or tell people why you can't use the idea. Whether it be cost, policy, or whatever. Give people some feedback so we know that ideas are being considered or rejected and why. :D

This gives me hope.

A few years ago i invited some friends to a game and it just so happened that my they left their babies bottle in the the car and realized it after we had got to our seats. The people at the gate where or coarse unwilling to work with us and told us that the only way to get back in was to buy another ticket. With no choice i went and got the bottle that had fallen out of the diaper bag. As i was purchasing the second ticket i explained to the worker at the ticket office what had happened and she said that she had been working these games for 25 years and that she noticed a huge drop in attendance when they started to implement all of these ridicules rules. I have attended games at BYU, Utah, USU and Weber and Weber State people are terrible. If tailgating is something that they are trying to increase you have to let people come and go like everyone else. It's very easy do what BYU and Utah do give them a wrist band when they leave. This is something that won't help this year but will change things over time and make game day a much better experience.

you have to become more 'customer friendly' so as not to upset your regular fans, and in the same breath create an environment that 'everyone' can enjoy. the banding on the wrist is a great idea, and let's not forget about the average attendance of a WSU football game.

in the event that there can be no adjustments or revisions to current policies in place, be content with little or no growth in attendance for the games. we have a good team, if not a great team.....SUPPORT COACH MAC AND THE 'CATS!!!!

Last night going home from work I was listening to Locked on Sports. I couldn't believe my ears we had a commercial for tommorow's game being advertised by the voice of the wildcats Carl Arkey inviting everyone out for a great game and fireworks.
