Where is everyone? Opening weekend is almost upon us and this place is dead!! We're opening the season at home for once, against a regional foe that fields a good team. Figured there would be more enthusiasm around here.

Slow down Turbo! Central Washington is a Division II team, and they aren't a regional foe! Stop! Wazzu, UW, UO, OSU, WYO, UM, MSU, UI, ISU, Weber St, yes! Central Washington?? GTFOH

Did I mention I hate when EWU plays D2 teams? EWU should be playing another FCS team from the MEAC, SWAC or home & home w/ a weak MVFC team.

I'll give credit where it's due to CWU. What's our record against them in the past two games? 1-1 and that win was by 3 fucking points, in 2010. What else did we do that year?

Our overall record against CWU is 34-30-4. Not that dominant. I predicted a 42-21 EWU win but I wont be surprised if it's closer.

And yeah, I get it, playing down a division isn't ideal, but fact of the matter is we should be lucky we even got this game with CWU. Thanks to former AD and scheduling wizard, we didn't have an opener 6 months ago. And as proved by last years playoff snub, strength of schedule means fuck all to the NCAA selection committee. I'd rather get a full 11 game schedule even if that means having to play CWU.

I wonder if the lack of traffic (or “excitement”) on here during game week is due to the sudden appearance of so many great Facebook groups? EWU Sports 2018, EWU Tailgate, FCS Football Fans Naion, etc. I would guess that this is pulling attention away from the Red Zone forums... just two cents

I get it, Central is a good DII team. So what? I'm sure there's a good NAIA team around here somewhere, should EWU schedule them and call it a rivalry? Don't get me wrong I'm excited for football season & most of all EWU Football, but my point is, I'd rather see an OOC, FCS team in CWU's place. :twocents: #GoEags!

Give the AD a break on this one... Central is a crappy opener because they are D2, yet substantially better than a lot of FCS teams. But she inherited a mess and had to scramble to get the game set. How our previous AD failed to get an opener scheduled is a mystery.

But I'll give you that the ideal opener would be one of these crappy conference FCS teams. It's an easier game than Central and it looks better on paper. If not, might as well just schedule an NAIA team as the playoff committee doesn't care that much about strength of schedule.

There's NO BENEFIT in playing a strong D2. This practice should end at EWU.

Just what we need.... A really good D2 team. We should be able to find about 50 D1 teams that are worse than Central. No reason to amp up the level of difficulty. The schedule is already pretty tough.

I'd be in favor of ending the practice of scheduling tough D2 teams... it's a no-win.

However, THIS year it makes sense only because our options were basically play 10 or take Central. The current AD got dealt a shit sandwich and had to find something- anything- to do on Sept. 1.

Playing CWU is not a bad thing anymore that WSU playing EWU is. We will get some good experience and so will CWU; way better than and extra bye for both teams and a home game for our fans. Players on both teams will have opportunities to enhance their overall 2018 statistics. See ya at the Inferno.

I blame Leerfield Sports for this. I don't know why it's their fault or how. But I blame them.

Where did the season hype videos go? The week to week hype videos? Where is the marketing for this team and this program and this season?

That’s part of it. Not sure who’s running the media piece these days, but they get an “F” for pre-season hype.

A little late, but saw this on EWU Football's Twitter feed, and nowhere else:
