Where's the Offense

The Wildcats have a way of making the opposing teams look good. Poor O-line play, poor play calling, and turnover happy. If either the Cats or Griz had a decent offense, this game would have been lopsided. Disappointing to say the least. Back to reality...should be close games amongst the cellar-dwellars now to finish a forgettable football season. :wall:

Its time to fire Hammer. The O Line is pitiful, but the playcalling has been miserable ever since Hammer became the OC.

Hammer can help our line though by chipping the ends with running backs or tight ends. The offense has definitely gotten worse each year under Hammer. I have been a season ticket holder since Mac got hired but if Hammer is still here next year I will not renew them. The offense can't complain about the coaching changes nothing changed on that side of the ball just horrible coaching

Agreed. We cancelled our season tickets this year. Between the horrible coaching and the price increase we decided to just buy tickets to games when we wanted to go. I have actually been to as many road games as home games this year. If we still have the same miserable OC next year I suspect attendance will be even worse.

I think part of the problem this year is that the interim Head Coach is also a DC. I hope we keep Sears as a DC, fire our OC, and look for an experienced HC. Maybe Robb Akey?

Akey? Are you kidding?! Look at his record at Idaho...one wonders why they kept him as long as they did! A new head coach usually brings a new staff with him. At the least I would say make Sears HC only and let him hire a new OC & DC. If the Wildcats lose anymore games this year (by repeating the same mistakes they're making all season long) then the AD needs to search for a new HC & staff. Or suffer the consequences of a bad football program at Weber State (again...I've witnessed it before)! :twocents:

Feel free to stay the hell away! If you can't back the cat's even in lean years then go somewhere else. I seriously hope you were joking with the Robb Akey comment :dunce:

I have backed the Cat's for 20+ years.... most of them very lean years. I do think Akey brings more to the table than Sears. Mostly, I think we need some change on the offensive side of the ball. I think Sears has made some improvements on the defense in the second half of the season. But I don't think he is ready to be a HC.

First off Akey is a Defensive coach NOT an Offensive mind. Second, he will leave in the middle of the night for ANY other offer just like he did last time he was coaching at Weber State. :ohno: :ohno: Plus he is a real Douche and won't win ANY fans over.

This discussion is leading back to a question previously posted in another thread- who will be the head coach of Weber State Football in 2013? Preferences aside, who is/are the most likely candidate(s)?

I think Sears should be given another chance, however I also think he should be allowed to bring in his own staff.

I completely agree!! I think Sears can and will get the job done as long as he gets rid of The O.C. Sorry but Hammer should resign, :thumb:

Honest question- What has Sears done to earn the job? What makes him the best candidate to lead the program moving forward?
First I would say he has shown incredible leadership in keeping this team together.
Second: This team is sill playing extremely hard despite their record.
Third: This team has shown vast improvement at least on Defense and Special teams
and finally, it seems like the players really like AND respect Coach Sears.

Or maybe this team has a horrible record despite playing extremely hard. :stir:

They also seem very undisciplined. I am not sure if that is completely attributable to Coach Sears, but he owns at least part of that.

I like Sears. I just don't like him as a Head Coach.

I'm not close enough to the situation to have an educated opinion on how good of a head coach Sears has been, however, I do think it is important to examine a person's resume and track record.

Sears as a defensive coordinator:

2003: Eastern Washington- Total Defense: 105th Scoring Defense: 86th
2004: Eastern Washington- Total Defense: 77th Scoring Defense: 59th
2005: Eastern Washington- Total Defense: 61st Scoring Defense: 44th
2006: Eastern Washington- Total Defense: 92nd Scoring Defense: 91st
2007: Eastern Washington- Total Defense: 80th Scoring Defense: 30th
2008: Washington State- Total Defense: 108th Scoring Defense: 118th
2009: Washington State- Total Defense: 120th Scoring Defense: 118th
2010: Washington State- Total Defense: 118th Scoring Defense: 110th
2011: Washington State- Total Defense: 82nd Scoring Defense: 95th

Do these statistics reflect his ability to run the entire Weber State program or even just the defense?

Aren't you the same guy that thinks Rob Akey should be our next coach? :?

I think Akey would be better than Sears. I also think there are a few other coaches with local ties who would be good hires. Honestly, I fully expect Jerry Bovee to stick his head in the sand and hire Sears and probably keep Hammer as well.

With that said... Who else could/should be considered? Gary Andersen at Utah State has done an excellent job by replicating the model started at Utah. Could the same model work at Weber State with another Whittingham disciple?
