Whittling Down The Roster

10 players played in the uccs game.
everyone but walkons and injured jrich and redshirts berry and fields.

so we have 11 guys that would likely get minutes plus 2 freshman in pelt and foster on the bench so we have a 13 man roster.

At the luncheon yesterday Rahe said that Wheelwright will be red-shirting. I guess a red-shirt can play in Exhibition games. Doesn't happen very often though; especially with Rahe. At least, I haven't seen him allow a Red-shirt to play before. So...who knows.

The roster, with red-shirts included is 15.

Did Rahe change his mind after last nights game? Flylikeasparrow was with me at the luncheon yesterday and heard Rahe say Wheelwright and Fields would be red-shirting. Either way, I think it was a tough decision for Rahe to make. All three could play right away.

Student-athletes in their first year at the school (freshmen and transfers if eligible) are allowed to participate in exhibitions without using a year of eligibility.

NCAA rules states players can't play in exabition game if they are red shirtting. Wheelright played a solid game . If Brown is going to be the back up 2 gaurd were in trouble. I heard in the stands Damian, Richardson and Bam Bam are still injured.... and Fields and Wheelright ASKED to be redshirted.

I think I'll believe the compliance office before I believe some fan that sat in the stands and "heard" things. And why would we be in trouble with Brown as the backup two guard? If you came to that conclusion from last night's game, then you must have missed his 4 of 5 shooting, three assists, and no turnovers. He's ready to play at this level and will be just fine. In fact I'll predict that if he plays he will be the conference's freshman of the year.

:+1: :agree: :agree: :agree:

All of these kids can play. There just are not enough minutes to make our coaching staff want to burn a year of eligibility, on a really good player, for 1 or two minutes a game. They have way too much respect for these kids and the program to take this lightly.

Exactly. I remember plenty of years where WSU players participated in exhibition games during red-shirt seasons. It doesn't count against their eligibility. :bad:

we have good freshman. some of them we NEED to save! any of them this yr, if given the minutes, will have a shot at fresh of the year. the key to fresh of the year is good minutes in conference play.

if we have any players that are maybes as redshirts and they are a 1 or 2 or 3 i say we save some of them! dame, bam and bull should be seeing 30 min a game. we dont want to waste a yr of eligibility like oldrunner is saying.

I agree with you. Sitting a year as a Red-Shirt doesn't necessarily mean that the player isn't ready to go, it might be a way to get the player more time in the future. Catcat hit it right on the nose. Dame, Bam, and Bull will all be playing 30+ this year, so might as well keep the Fresh for the future. Besides, it gives them another year to mature physically, understand the system, and mesh.

according to the standard article tonight the big guy from Modern Family is correct

It's nice for Weber to be in a position where it's difficult to decide how to best use all of the talent you have. Our freshmen have great potential and I know the coaching staff is concerned with utilizing them not only for the team's benefit, but also for their individual development. And, the mystery will finally be solved tomorrow, but my prediction is that Brown will play and Wheelwright will redshirt. The future is bright. :geek:

I think Tal's report Monday was accurate. And since coach Rahe likes to use a 10 man rotation, and since redshirts can play exhibition games, and since Jordan Richardson was still nursing an ankle, he played Gelaun Monday as backup point guard.

So... my prediction is:

Starting point=Lillard, backup=Richardson
Starting 2=Bamforth, backup=Brown
Starting 3=Bullinger, backup=Fulton (Brown some 3)
Starting 4=Otis, backup=Mahoney
Starting 5=Tresnak, backup=Hajek

So... my prediction is:

Starting point=Lillard, backup=Richardson
Starting 2=Bamforth, backup=Brown
Starting 3=Bullinger, backup=Fulton (Brown some 3)
Starting 4=Otis, backup=Mahoney
Starting 5=Tresnak, backup=Hajek

Little off the subject - but I hadn't seen Tresnak in a while. He really looks bigger, stronger, more fit!

will we really see fulton play the 3? i would put otis at the 3 before fulton. fulton was the freshman of the year a the 4 last yr. but after we discussed bull for 2 yrs thinking he should get moved to the 3 it did happen and he was an all conf selection at the 4 as a fresh and a first teamer as a jr at the 3.

im sure we will see plenty of players playing more than one position excluding trez & hajek.

we need to save some players for the future. fields and wheel both would be good to redshirt. minutes at the 1, 2 or 3 would be very little this year. im really hoping those 3 starters can each average over 30 min a game.

last full season played by each, mpg
dame 34 min
bull 29
bam 29

hearing a rumor that any of the guards may have requested to redshirt doesnt sound far fetched considering the minutes. if your the 3rd string guard you wont play much.

I hear you if you look at their height. However, Mook is a starter and starts at the 4. Additionally, in watching some of their practices, Mook seems stronger inside that Fulton though he is an inch shorter. And I don't know that Monday is absolutely indicative but Fulton (who shot 48 percent from 3 last season) seems to have a better outside game that Mook. Willing to listen to any and all flaws in that logic.
