Who should be the starting RB?

don't know how it is panning out. seems like we've got talent galore, which is awesome.

it's just about who will rise to the top in the next few weeks. or maybe they're planning on "running by committee", who knows. i won't be at the scrimmage, so you locals will have to make the call this weekend. if there was a betting line for the RB position in Vegas, i wouldn't have a clue on who to bet on...

-GO HORNETS!

Evander, uh uh, Daily... I dont know... I'm so excited that football is almost here! :D

Evander did a great job last season, I'd expect him to be the starter if he's healthy. Of course, Daily could be just what the doctor ordered. I'll admit it, Ilike TD's size and feel he'd be a better nack in short yardage situations but would like to see Evander start some of the drives.

I love what we have at the position. There is alot of talk about the freshman McCowan and his abilities.
But we need our experience to start and use McCowan as a third down back because of his elusiveness.
So I'd go with Dailey. Saw him at 2 different practices and the scrimmage and he broke a few big runs.
Wilkins coming off a injury I like him but he's not better than Dailey and maybe behind McCowan.
Croxdale is a hammer but when do you go to him? SO TO ME IT'S DAILEY.

like i said before, i have no clue who should start. but let me play devil's advocate here, and i am sure i'll get shot down by some or all:

if we've got so much latent talent at RB, would we be better off using 2 backs, or a tailback and slot back?

keep the defense guessing - run, screen, swing pass? do you think the coaching staff is thinking about this? (i guess if they were, we would have seen some of that last weekend, or maybe they're keeping their cards close..) anyhow, just a thought, please talk amongst yourselves...even if we go with a single back, and someone goes down, we've got depth.

Fickyfack,

Nice thought, however I just can't see us going with a 2 back offense. You are right about the depth we have. I'm sure the coaches already have the established depth chart completed for sometime now. I wouldn't be surpurised if they hold out some starters from this scrimmage. I think I would have to agree that it breaks down as follows:

1) Daily
2) Evander
3) McCowan
4) Croxdale

Nice group!!!

Dailey

Croxdale
McCowan (RS if not needed)

hey guys, new to the board, but not to hornet football. moved back into bay area a few months back, and decided to reconnect with the program. although i've sat on the board sidelines for a while, i decided to visit the scrimmage yesterday, and went to the after scrimmage party on the field.

to those who want to really get connected to hornet football, GO TO THIS FUNCTION NEXT YEAR! not only was it fun, and my head is a little cloudy right now, but i talked to nearly every coach, a few players, and was able to meet many parents and supporters of the program. again, highly recommended.

and even though i haven't been engaged with the intracacies of the team, i decided to weigh in on the RB competition (my only reference are the board discussions and the few articles from the Slack Bee). Here's my take:

1/2. Evander Wilkins
a known commodity, but may be more useful on special team returns, will take less of a pounding on his rehabbed knee. coaches call.
1/2. Jake Croxdale
i guess he performed solidly last year, is durable and apparently gets the job done.
3. Kenslow Smith
looked like a solid back with JC experience, haven't seen enough of his runs aside from youtube highlights.
4. Sam Mc Cowan
freshman with tons of talent, but may be RS
5. Terrance Dailey
probably best raw talent, no dobt about it. but i saw him with huge ice pack on his shoulder after scrimmage, and not looking too happy about it. apparently shoulder was already operated on last year. spoke with unnamed coach last night, who said TD was getting shoulder reexamined last night. apparently he played most of the season last year at UW with same pain. if surgery is needed, that's bad news. but if he can tough it out like last year, i'd move him up to the #1 spot.

i am glad to see the enthusiasm of everyone here. i plan on doing a road trip to UNLV game - i am wearing hornet yellow to contrast with all the devil red that will be there.

here's to a reenergized hornet team!
:D

Terrance Dailey is receiving an MRI on his shoulder today, Wednesday Sept. 2nd. Want's to make sure he didn't tear his labrum (sp?) again, which is what he had repaired during the offseason.

Don't know what that means, it was written that TD played through alot of that similar pain last year at UW. (BTW,is that what Hilliard had surgery on, or something else?) Do you rest TD for this game for league games, or let him run wild in sin city?

Marcus Welby, what does this all mean?

Good info Hitsomeone... I am connected and only got part of that info, now that you filled in the blanks it is clear to me. I say rest him and use the other backs, but what does what I say matter????
