Who Will Host?

I took the rest of the conference schedule. I made guesses as follows.

Rule 1 - Figure the home team winning with exceptions
Rule 1a - Exception 1 is EWU and Sac State not winning another game at all
Rule 1b - Exception 2, my judgment calls, NAU at Montana and PSU at Northern Colorado

Projected Standings:
Portland State 12-4
Weber State 11-5
Northern Arizona 11-5
Idaho State 10-6
Montana State 9-7
Montana 8-8
Northern Colorado 5-11
Eastern Washington 4-12
Sacramento State 2-14

We can easily say there's no margin for error, with special importance placed on PSU beating Cream O' Weber Saturday night. Don't get caught watching the paint dry!

The other risky one... Montana State has a good home record, but has this thing for slipping up at the wrong time. I have them beating NAU tonight, but you won't see me laying any money on that one.

It also helps if PSU exceeds my expectations and wins in Missoula. I kind of figure Bone might save a little energy for the following Tuesday.

PSU should be able to win 2 of the final 4 conference games and be the host, but do they really want to back in? I think that winning 3, if not all of the games is what the team needs to keep the momentum high for the 1st round bye. What are people hearing about possible venues?

Anybody else hating the bracketbuster right now? I love the idea, but if it's not getting a national tv audience, what's the point?

I agree with you WiViking, but I don't think losing the 2 (two) road games on the Montana trip is that bad !! It's a tough trip, and they're still good teams, so I don't see it as a monmentum killer. Losing's not all bad...it keeps the team from becoming complacent or overconfident.
This reminds a lot of 3 years ago, where the boys had to win at least 1 game on the Montana trip to clinch, which seemed unlikely, becuase PSU had never had much luck winning on the road in the State of Montana. Only difference this year is we have a last game at home after that.

However, I think we're looking too far down the line. The team will make a mistake if it's looking at that, and overlooking Northern Colorado. I think they're a solid team, and we barely beat them at home. They can beat anyone in their own gym, so we just need to focus on trying to win that one.Last edited by on 2008-02-17, 15:10; edited 1 time in total

With the way things turned out last night I'm hoping Weber finishes 3rd and gets us another home game!

Big Sky Tourney:
1. PSU 13-3...Y not? - losing to one of the montanas on the road
2. NAU 11-5
3. WSU 10-6 - beating the montanas at home and losing at NAU
4. MSU 9-7
5. UM 8-8
6. ISU 8-8

1/4 finals: 6. ISU @ 3. WSU; 5. UM @ 4. MSU
semi finals: on Altitude - 3. WSU vs 2. NAU; 4. MSU vs 1. PSU
finals: rematch on ESPN - WSU vs PSU

For the conf tourney...

Assuming EWU/UNC/Sac don't make it. Who would you like to play or not play for the semis and finals ?

Only two teams scare me:
1) WSU, because they've defeated PSU already this year and because they've knocked PSU out of the conference tourny the last two times PSU was decent.
2) Montana, because they're ceiling is as high as any in the league if they actually decide to show up for 2-3 games in a row.

Montana lost last night.

If EWU beats UNC tomorrow, and Idaho State (who dispatched MSU last night) beats Montana on Sunday, then EWU will be ahead of Montana in the standings heading into the last 2-3 games. Portland State plays both teams.

I'd thought about that too, but that is one too many ifs for me to think UM will miss the postseason entirely. However, if their freshman center is out for awhile (is he back yet?), then that might help the cause.

Are you talking about that 7 foot #54? If so that guy was a joke yesterday...I guess it makes a little sense if he is a freshman.

I'm talking about #44, Brian Qvale.

I thought 44 sucked but if he just came off an injury...then i guess that is why. For some reason all the UM bigs were a joke. Arturas Valeika had 20 rebs so...
