Why did NCU run out the clock?

There was 48 seconds left in the game and NCU had the ball on their own 33 yard line. The Bears ran the ball up the middle on 1st and 10 for 6 yards and then let the clock run out. They had 2 time outs remaining and could have tried to push the ball up the field and then get in field goal range. Instead they didn't even try. I was glad they did that but didn't understand why.
Was NCU stupid? Why did this happen? Did they not want to win?

First, we're not NCU, we're UNC. We've been in the conference for five years. Figure it out.

Second, we ran the clock out because our coach is a coward and an idiot.

Yeah I was surprised by that as well, when we fumbled and "UNC" ;) recovered I was ready to cry, because of how well the Bears were moving the ball, then they let it go into overtime, I felt a sense of confusion and relief at the same time

I was really confused here too. I've never seen this before and couldn't figure out for the life of me why they wouldn't go for the win and if all else fails then try OT. I thought everyone did this, especially with the way they were moving the ball. I found it bizarre.

The only reason I could come up with was that they feared turning the ball over and giving us another chance. UNC had time outs and the field position to take a couple of stabs at it. All they needed was about 20 more yards to be in FG position. It was a bizzar thing on a bizzar night. The lights went off at 10 PM, just like they were programmed to. I was in the press box at the time. It was not a simple switch to turn them back on. It all came down to some bonehead programming them to automatically turn off at 10. Someone had to be called, I heard out of town, to over ride the program. It was really quite astonishing that we could get them back on so quickly.

As far as the "CNU"/"UNC" thing, It may be just a mere typo and Mikegraygoose was just sooo tired from yelling for 4 OT's that he didn't have the strength to proof read!

As for the brilliant call to run out the clock ....WTF! I commented to one of the other photogs at that moment that the decision would bite ya'all in the butt. It's just too bad that it took 4 OT's for the teeth to sink in.

we might have the answer to this thread when the unc season ends; their fans better be pissed about that.
