Why no band?

Why doesn't PSU have a band to play at the football games? Adding a band would 1) improve the game atmosphere, 2) get rid of the pre-recorded fight song that's piped throughout the stadium, and 3) fill up an entire section of the stadium to make the stands look full. If there is an issue of funding a band, why not atleast give a different high school band the chance to perform every week? That would be a cheap solution to several issues at once.

I just don't think that the PSU music dept has a marching band...

You're right, it would add so much to the atmosphere. The pep band adds that at the basketball games.

They should invite local high school bands... How hard would it be to send the PSU fight song music to them prior to the game?

Trust me the it has been done before, I know from experience! From my understanding and experience PSU wants a High School Band to come and play at the games however it creates alot of confussion for both the Coach of the band "due to his lack of inexperience playing at such a venue" and for the director of game ops. We consistenly had problems with the band playing during PA annoucements which generally only consist of Corporate and game day sponsors, Which PSU has to do because its in the contract!! During the half time shows it was awesome but as expect they are high school students and they are there to have fun and would show up to the field late, play 10 minutes longer than they were suppose to and then take forever getting off the field.

I totally agree it would be awesome if PSU had there own very marching band. It makes a more attractive and exciting game environment. But PSU simply does not have anywhere near the budget needed to supply 30-60 more scholarships, salary for a coach, and money uniforms and traveling expenses for a marching band.

Even if we had some extremely generous donations to start a band how would PSU keep it running year after year? We already cut the mens Golf program and now reinstating the mens and womens tennis program after a two yr stint, which is mandatory to be in 1AA and the big sky conference.

This is a very good question and I wish there was an answer to solve the problem.

Another thing is that PGE Parks PA system is crap, I know that they had 5 amps that were out at the last game through a very reliable source and they said that PGE Park refuses to repair them and alot of other things there.

no kidding

PGE Park is a money pit! It hardly generates any money. Even if the PSU games sold out they still would be in the whole by the end of the yr. PSU generally only plays Football there 4-7 times/yr that place cost a lot to manage and operate. I hope that with the Jumbotron that they are putting in that they will replace the PA system as well.
