While reading a lot of these stories on the College sites and ESPN I find a lot of people making comments or questioning why Damian chose to play for WSU. One of the top questions is "Isn't he from the Bay Area?" and the top assumption "He must not have had good grades". :wtf:

A lot of those schools were selling swampland and hats off to Coach Rahe! He came a spoke to us like a real person and he was certainly genuine! I am glad that Dee chose Weber!

We are very grateful that Dame is a Wildcat!! As for the commentary...most of the people who make comments aren't aware of the garbage that goes along with recruiting. They don't understand that players make decisions based on coaches, teammates, systems, etc. They just see the "Big" name institutions and automatically assume things. We all know that Damian is an excellent student. :thumb:

from the KSL.com article:

This quote from Damian is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. The good thing is it drives him to do better.

"I've always had a chip on my shoulder because I've always been overlooked," Lillard said. "They don't really recruit in Northern California. Even in my neighborhood, people don't go to college, graduate from high school. I always wanted to be the one that was different, beat the odds. So the chip's always been there.

"Now people say, he goes to Weber State or plays in the Big Sky. I feel like I've got to prove people wrong all the time."

His brother and cousins played football, all getting started in youth football leagues. So we put D out there too. He was totally disinterested the first season of playing and when they started teasing him and telling him he was garbage. He decided that he'd prove them all wrong. The next season he played middle linebacker and was the sack master and no running back got past him. He ended the season as Defensive Player of the Year and kindly told us all that he'd proven he could be a good football player and that he'd never play football again. That's when he became a basketball player.
