What is its purpose? Is anyone else on here a member? I joined 2 years ago, but never heard anything more till they wanted me to give them more money. My wife and I think its a total waste. Is there a reason to rejoin?

Welcome to the board, sadkitty.

I looked into it in the past but have never joined. From what I observed and from what I've heard, it is poorly ran, badly organized, and not worth joining. :twocents:

I've been a member for a few years. I've come to the conclusion that the money I donate to the organization goes into some sort of black hole. I'm not sure what the purpose of the club is either, but I do like attending coaches luncheons. Isn't that the only continuious event sponsored by the club? If there are others I guess I haven't been invited or I'm not rich enough to attend. Anyway, I'm a member solely to get better tickets and so I can't get a discount at the gym, which I have to have the AD call down every year to remind the gym folks that its part of the benefits package. To think of it, I've never received a package of any sort from the WCC club. Interesting, like most things at Weber there isn't any communication, organization, planning, and very little to no concern for members unless you donate in excess of 15K. I really don't mind the director. She is okay, if she feels like talking to you.

The wildcat club.............hmmmm....
The only reason that I am a member is to get better seating at football and basketball. The purpose of the club is to raise money for scholarships. They sponsor the coaches luncheons, have an annual golf tourney, and an annual dinner and auction. That is ALL. Don't call and ask for help with road game tickets, hotels or anything else for road games. They do put together one or two trips for members, but it is usually expensive and not well attended. In my opinion, the director is unhelpful, and unfriendly unless you give a lot of money. I never receive my parking pass or welcome packet. I have to go to the stadium to get my parking pass every year. So, in conclusion, join to get better seats and help student athletes a little bit.
(I think this is my longest post ever) :)

i am a member and i recommend to join.

a. it goes to the good of the program
b. you can choose where the money goes
c. even as a $50 member it is still worth joining, you get updates on what is going on with the club and eventually down the road you will likely become a higher level member.
d. $12 for coaches lunch instead of $15 i think.
e. wsu magazine (quarterly)
f. be on wclub email list

as a low level member it can seem pointless and not worth retaining membership, i totally agree with that. in fact, myself, year 2 i did not renew. i didnt see the point and i was never sent my membership card, decal and license plate frame. then a couple years later i rejoined.

the biggest incentive to join other than to make a generous donation for the good of the program is for priority seating as mentioned by Weber Pirate.

there is no advantage for seating when your a $50 level member as you do not qualify but if you want great seats in the dee and your not a student you would be motivated to up the ante to get closer seats. Same benefits in Stewart Stadium except you can sit anywhere on the GA/student side. Reserved side though has some chair backs, sky box suites and is the shaded side and your close to our team bench.

also you need to be a $200 level or $600 level for certain priority parking too.

here is the list of all the benefits of each level:

How does the club survive if it is run so poorly? I see some of the benefits, but do they out weight the negatives? I'm all for supporting the athletes, but I expected more. At least to get my membership packet.

Nope...it is another benefit you receive with your annual donation to the WCC. At least that is what I was told last year. I will double check this year when my gym membership is almost up. However, I got a discount last year for being a WCC member. It would be cheaper joining WSUAA.

YIKES...I've been a member for 4 years, and I have never received any of those things. Whenever I go to the stadium I am treated well by the director so that does make up for never receiving anything. But they really need to do a better job. My parents joined for the first time and never received anything. Now they aren't going to join again. If things went well they would have gotten a couple of my siblings to join and some of their siblings, now...it wont be happening.

I'm not sure I'll join again. I dont' feel like I was treated well. Who knows, I might not have a lot of money now, but I could in a decade. Wouldn't it be wiser to treat everyone the same, with respect? Long term investment in my opinion.

:ohno: This sums it up for me.

Well yeah!?! Of course, but this is something Weber just doesn't get. I haven't been a member myself, but my parents were, and they gave a decent amount. The director ignored them at some event when they asked about some benefit or something they needed and they haven't rejoined and won't till she is gone. They joined when Shay was the director and loved him. He was passionate about what he did.

Many of you who have been on this board for a long time have heard me rant about the WCC before. I have been labeled as a "malcontent" by some of those in the athletic dept because of my thoughts and opinions I posted in the past. I know a LOT about the workings (or lack thereof) of the Wildcat club, but it doesn't seem to help matters at all. I get really ticked when I think about all of the missed opportunities, and the total lack of member benefits that I personally tried to get changed.

I have to stop now or I will have to hire the services of "Ogden Godfather", and he is not cheap. :yikes:

sadkitty;

The only reason the Wildcat Club exists is to raise money for athletic scholarships. That is how athletic scholarships are funded, for the most part. If you gave, they should have said thanks. What you should have gotten from it was the satisfaction of knowing that you contributed to something that you value. If you think that you should get more for your money, send $50 off to a politician and see what you get in return.

I have heard people say that they wont give because they don't like someone involved. I don't look at it that way. I look at what the money is accomplishing, and that makes me feel that I can be part of a solution and not part of the problem. Believe me, there is no inbetween. In my 40+ years of giving back to my Alma Mater, I have seen the lives of many individuals changed, in a positive way, due to the monies given to support scholarships.

I have thought a lot about the many ways there are to give, and, to me, athletic scholarships have the most impact on society as a whole. I have heard the arguments for accademic scholarships, but I have never seen scholars go without an education. However, I have seen a lot of athletes get an education who would not have without an athletic scholarship. I feel the same way about the arts.

GIVE WHAT YOU CAN. GIVE OFTEN.

another option is go join round ball or grid iron. those are very specific donations if you care the most about football or basketball and you would get more out of it. it is an upgrade in donation but it is also an upgrade in benefit.
