Whitney High School is a public magnet school located in the southern Placer County city of Rocklin, California, a settlement in the northern Sacramento metropolitan area. Whitney is one of two high schools in Rocklin Unified School District; its counterpart is Rocklin High School. The school is the district's newest educational facility, having opened in 2005 to freshmen and sophomores; Whitney's first freshmen graduated at the end of the 2008–09 school year. That same school year, Whitney was recognized as a California Distinguished School.

I dont get.. they changed the color and put a new name on it. its still the same logo... its like taking the new york yankees logo changing the color and saying your the yankers.. still the same. the parents in this clip have no clue what they are even saying.

But i do know they are working on cutting down the logos that have sprung up over the years and trying to lean towards just an athletics logo and a school logo and thats it.

Funny. I just read an article about Notre Dame threatening to file a lawsuit against a high school not long ago. I found the link... Those logos are the exact same. Weber should do what it needs to do to protect the brand and logo of our school and athletics.

I don't see any reason Weber should be hospitable and allow them to use our logo. Just because this high school is uncreative and steal a logo does not make WSU the bad guy even if the high school doesn't seem to care that it is the same logo.

Wow, that's something else. It is the exact same thing. The name is even the same font. I'm sorry but that is infringement plain and simple. They didn't even try to tweak it at all.

Even though I think Weber should fight this, its cool to know somebody liked our logo enough to want to use it for themselves.

why they should not use our logo:
one reason the high school should change is because it is lame of them and they should want to be original like everyone else and it also should be embarrassing to use the same logo if they had any shame after this went public especially if they just weren't aware. it looks they their opinion after was weber should just let them use it and not be rude that they copied it.

why they can use it:
but, if it is only in football and not the official school logo then maybe it isnt a big deal. ive seen high school football teams around the state imitate college and pro uniforms and it was just that. it wasnt the whole school or offiicial logo to my knowledge.

From what I am aware of...Weber has trademarks on all of their Logos and athletic marks. High school/district officials should be aware of the implications of utilizing trademark logos/marks without permission. A suit, or an order to disist and relinquish said marks, isn't out of the question and is the norm. Unless, they have procured official approval from the trademark institution they can't use the marks. The high school, should have asked Weber before "borrowing" the marks.

i have heard this so probably a good chance it is not true but it was at wsu. the univeristy and athetlic logo are offical trademarks but the bookstore logo is not an official logo of of wsu and im sure a lot of us have noticed athetics never uses it. but supposedly bookstore logo isnt trademarked. so maybe the high school should have used the bookstore logo. i believe i heard this from one of the old members of the marketing department that were fired/layed off.

We ought to sell it to them for a couple mil. and create a better one. You would think that educators would know better than to infringe on a copy right. Any way you look at it, it's more money for WSU. I wonder if anyone in admin even know about it?? :bad:

I talked to a girl this summer in Springfield, OH who was wearing a shirt with our exact logo on it. She told me it was from her high school. I don't see the big deal because highschools use college and pro team logos all the time. We should be flattered that they like our logo enough to use it on their helmet!

WSU is well aware of the infringement:

"Brown said the Whitney High School Wildcats logo was based off of Weber State's logo. However, Brown said the school made changes to the logo such as using different claws, they believed sufficiently differentiated the two logos.

Brown said the school has been using the logo for six years."

I've never understood how high schools could use professional or college logos and get away with it. Locally, Alta High School uses the Atlanta Falcons logo, Timpview uses Tennessee's logo, Mountain Crest used to use the Denver Broncos logo. I've always wondered if any of these high schools have gotten permission to use the logos. This ripoff is one of the worst that I've seen. I don't see how they even think they changed the claws.
