Will the Viks be good enough to win the Big Sky?

I think we will not know how good the Viks really are until January. I hope that is the time they really hit their stride. Hammond will help to add depth to the back court, and if he is as good as people say that he is we will be looking good.

Yes, I think we have the talent to win the Big Sky.

We were pretty darn close last year, so hopefully we can build on that and take it this year.

It'll be weird to see the team for the non-conference schedule and then have Alex and Hammond start getting their first minutes of the year.

I'm pretty optimistic about the team this year. I think our gains outweigh our loses:

Loses:
Experienced PGs. We lost a two year starter at PG, with the backup having a year in the system. Sommer was too emotional to play the PG, and EJ was mediocre at best.

Three Point Shooter. We lost Kumara, Hafford, and Smith, all of which were primarily deep shooters. We don't really have anybody to specifically fill that role now.

Gains:
Depth and size inside. We have JR Moore and Tief, which provide some additional size in relief of Morrison.

Tyrell "Gun Show" Mara. As a freshman, I was very impressed with him. The only thing I thought he needed to do was drop some "baby fat" and replace it with muscle. During his redshirt year last year, he did just that. He is also showing a ton of leadership as a sophmore. When he is on the court, he seems to be leading the team.

Jeremiah "Speedy" Dominguez. Words don't describe how fast he is. I've not seen a PG as fast as he is come into the Stott, either for the Viks or for another team. The only concern is his fouls, as he reaches for steals constantly, and if he can truly setup the team.

Coston will be hard for other teams to guard. He is tall and lanky, and too fast for a big guy to guard, but too tall for a small guy to guard. Oh, and he can shoot lights out from outside, as well.

Morrison is the best big man in the Big Sky, and has been for the past few years. Now if he would just realize it and play like it. Our guards are all talented and athletic, and will be able to score and excite the crowd often.

Lets get ready to get the Stott rockin!!

I think as far as shooters go, we have plenty. As far as specialists, we don't really have one, but Coston should fill that role when all the players become eligible.

I think we have a problem with the lack of 3 point shooters. Unless someone steps up, I don't think we can challenge for the BSC title. 3 point shooting is key.

JD can hit 3's all night long.

Most of my optimism is still reserved for next season, but I'm getting excited for this year as well. Just need the backup bigs to develop.

They have four good long range shooters in Dominguez, Polis, Murray, and Coston. I was worried before the season, but what can you do?
