If Barriere runs called plays enough to keep linebackers and safetys honest it should open thing up downfield.LDopaPDX said:More Eli Doyle... the guy is great, and gives us more cover from the safety position than the other guys. He seems to be getting limited minutes with Anthany Smith healthy again, but I think Doyle is a better tackler than either him or Criner. I feel safe when he's on the field.
I'd like to see Eastern get back to playing their swing pass and wide receiver screen game. It felt like we completely abandoned it for two weeks, but its a philosophy we've used historically well. We've got good blocking receivers, we can make this work. No reason to bomb it downfield when you can chip 5-10 yards every time you run the swings. Merritt's even busted a couple for long TDs. And without question, we need Barriere using his feet as a weapon, not just to avoid trouble. I'd make sure he carries the ball at least once every possession just to keep the D honest.
I'm with you LDopa short quick pass plays are better than 2 yds and cloud of dust.
Playmakers in space!
I'm for what works. Know that the Eagles could have run the ball the past two games better if it was more downhill, off tackle; especially if motion was used to deceive the defense a few times. This would also open up screens and edge throws as defense attacks up field. Guessing the bigger db's of Weber and MSU manhandled the WR's a bit and Eag's didn't adjust by running wheels or pick plays, in this case, specifically with the TE's were their size is a better matchup against physical db's... It's not like the Eagles don't have players who know the whole playbook. Maybe Eagles should run plays the players believe in?
Know you haven't been a fan of McCann clawman. I have struggled placing blame on the WR's coach for dropped balls when there seems to be confusion about the playcalling per some Obzerver posts. Of course, I have been willing to give the newer DL and LB coaches some credit for better schemes in general and more hat on a hat play style with the front 7.
It will be interesting to see what transpires today. I don't like late games. Anyone know what the record in in the past 10 or so seasons in late games? I feel like it's 50/50 at best.
