Wk 6 Prediction Thread Cal Poly 41 @ EWU 42

Haven't seen anything from Cal Poly to suggest they will be able to slow down the full scale assault from the Eastern Offense. That is not to say lackluster line play, drops or penalties won't do the job for CP, CP won't be slowing anyone down this week.

With two weeks to prepare, a chance to heal up and playing on the Inferno will be a BIG boost to the psyche of the team and enhance their efforts this week.

Defense has been playing better positional football and that will help get several stops this game, they will more than likely give up a big play in the passing game as CP has been able to throw the ball a little against opponents. Could wax poetic but won't.

Have respect for CP, but don't see them coming in and doing much.

Eastern 48 -- CP 28

Rest of the BSC:
ISU gets crushed by UND
Griz handle Weber
North Texas slams PSU
MSU big over Sac St.
Wacky pick of the week
UC Davis in an upset over NAU ;-)

What's with PSU playing an OOC game two games into the BSC regular season? Forgive me, this is the first year I've paid close attention to the other team's schedules.

Ahem, that is what the Grizzlies thought too!

Always the worry wart. This is about drawing a line in the sand and making a prediction imo; understandable if you haven't made up your mind, but taking issue with my statement without putting your money on the table is weak sauce. I am assuming that EWU will do exactly what they are capable of doing.

Who knows what Montana thought and who cares, games are played on the field. Don't dance around it, what do you really think about the outcome of the game?

We will be effective at scoring, but Cal Poly will eat up a lot of clock time.

38-20 EWU

Could certainly go this way should CP maintain long drives. How does Norv Turner keep getting head coaching jobs btw... ? That one is a mystery to me. :)

My biggest question mark is the running game for EWU. CP does play disciplined D. Looking for 125 out there, but wouldn't be surprised with half that. Anyone?

Over the last few years, we've come off of bye weeks a little slowly. 2012 saw us come down to the last drive to beat a terrible Weber State team. In 2013, we played our worst game of the year in losing to Sam Houston State. Last year, we needed a comeback to get our annual win over Montana State.

The other side is that the last couple of times we played Cal Poly, we jumped all over them and essentially ended what should have been a competitive game early.

I'll pick Eastern to win by a couple TDs, in a game they should put away early but don't. CP will hang around just close enough to make us nervous all four quarters.

If the team that beat MSU shows up, then we should win this game. If the one that struggled against Sac St. does, we could be in trouble.

EWU 38 CP 30

stream of consciousness:

Pretty hard to call any game in the BSC so far based on the performances. MSU has a lot of talent, Montana's new offensive scheme is good and they have play makers that can make it work, CP is talented, will even throw a bone to NAU. Is it safe to say EWU may have the deepest talent and if they could keep everyone healthy and on the field the Eags' would run away with the BigSky this season? Couple of questions in that one.

I think EWU is deeper than all the teams I have watched to date, BigSky and otherwise, although Jax St impressed at Auburn (sort of stunk it up the next week though).

Several posters have stated the nature of CP's offense could keep the Eag's off the field offensively. Certainly possible. Don't see Eastern owning time of possession :-) The eag offense could score so fast the defense is on the field a lot again.

Here is what I would like to see this game:
Team having fun and success in all phases of the game
60/40 pass run
take more shots downfield, loosen up the running game
125+ rushing offense
defense gets 5-8 stops (4 three and outs)
2 TO's
keeps CP under 4.5 yds a carry
no big plays 20+ yds passing or rushing
Get a 2+TD lead and finish all 60 minutes

Excited to see team on the Inferno this weekend.

I totally agree. The Big Sky Conference, much like the BCS situation, seems to be anyone's to win at this point. It's hard to find any kind of pattern from the empirical data so far. There are a lot of good teams, but everyone seems to have some flaws.

Eastern and Montana State can score on anyone when playing well, but look like a sieve on defense. Montana is fairly complete as a team, but doesn't have the top talent they're used to. Portland State and NAU are an enigma, wrapped in bacon, and slathered with cheese. Cal Poly seems to have struggled badly at times and are a victim of their periodic bad form. North Dakota leads the conference at the moment, that's a total WTF to top it all off.

We'll come to know a lot more about our D after this game. Cal Poly, as usual, doesn't throw much so we can stack the box and contest the line of scrimmage with more vigor than we can against just about anyone else. In fact, in order to keep our defense off balance, I sort of expect the Stangs to air it out just to force us to keep the LBs and safeties back.

Having Raines back is nice for this game as the safety will need to pick up the pitch man on the weak side.

I actually think the Big Sky is down from in terms of talent this year.

You have the usual top 3, and Eastern seems to be the cream of the crop. MSU is good, but their defense is worse than ours and they really don't have any studs at the Skill position for Prukop to throw to. The Griz are the Griz but their offense has looked downright awful this year. They have a good D, but they are not a strong contender this year, probably make the playoffs based on the fact that the Big Sky isn't that good.

The rest of the teams don't appear to be that good. ISU is having a major drop off. Cal Poly is always tough but not top 15 nationally tough, and thats about it. I don't buy PSU, they will lose, and lose a bunch, so will UND, its just a matter of time.

I think Eastern rolls to a Big Sky title this year, we really only have one tough game on the schedule and thats in Missoula. I was nervous about the ISU game but it appears that shipped has sailed.

I think Eastern rolls to an easy 7-1 or 8-0 big sky championship this year...

I have former players on both rosters, and know the Cal Poly roster since it's in my old stomping grounds. They have some very talented players on offense, not so much on D...

EWU 48
Cal Poly 28

I think we get ahead early and it's not much of a game. :notworthy:

One score is to close. We will win by two or more scores. The third quarter will open up that spread. Defense will do its job. They have been getting to the right places, just not finishing the play, This week with the extra rest, and return of players they will get the job done. We will be a very good Defense by the end of BSC play. Which will spell real trouble for Montana.
