No suspense.. Home on the Inferno.

EAGS 52 - CAL POLY 27

CWU would trounce Cal Poly even with CP's Joe Prothroe in his 18th year in the program playing FB.

Take care of the football, take shots downfield with our speed and pound McPherson/Pierce/et.al. and this one resolves itself. There, I fixed the glitch.

Here is a great example of what option offense looks like and a good defensive display as well.. Not ehow often the OL plows into the lower body of the DL. Critical that the DL can fend the OL off and maintain their gaps.

This has all the makings of a trap game. Coming off a bad loss while Cal Poly seems to be getting better. Typically, teams tend to play a bad game the week after the "bloom comes off the rose."

The coaching staff needs to be selling the notion that we're 2-1 after non-conference play and still right where we need to be. Hell, I wouldn't even watch film of the Coug game. No reason to keep that in the minds of the players.

 I would be a gagillionaire right now if the big guy upstairs paid off... Literally told my wife this morning you would comment on this being a trap game and a lot closer than the relative talent level suggests. You don't disappoint Dopa. :D

Many things are possible but GOOD teams pound the next opponent into the dirt time and time again, especially a sub par opponent. Granted if the team was seeking an identity, would have shown a lot more caution as you counsel. I don't think this team is looking for an identity and will lick their wounds and come out to show the very shaky BigSky that the championship goes through Eastern.

No one is looking past this opponent, Best has done a nice job of keeping the team in the now. Prothroe is a talent and CP will get their yards, Eastern just has a lot more in the tank.. If they should happen to stand toe to toe and make it a contest, I'll take a 1 point win all day long and enjoy it. Actually looking forward to seeing how CP deals with the fact we have 6+ WR's making plays now and can run the ball on anyone.

We're going to destroy Cal Poly.

EWU played a good WSU team and probably gave them the biggest challenge of the season so far. Until the wheels fell, errr.... blew off (I was away from the TV for like 5 to 10 minutes early in the 4th and all hell broke lose) we were very much in the game.

I like our chances the rest of the season. UC Davis to me is the toughest game left on the schedule. The rest we should win.

EWU did nothing, & proved nothing against WSU. That game tells u nothing on how the EWU-CPSLO (Conference game) will play out. IDK, maybe I'm just nervous bc EWU got beat by WSU.

I always think the WORST a team ever plays is the week after an emotional loss. We saw it with Nebraska this weekend. Heck, look at Samford for a great example. They go toe to toe with Florida State with a narrow loss, and then lose to freaking Mercer on their home field yesterday. This was the same Mercer that already had a 52-point loss this year...

It'll be important to put WSU behind us ASAP. Get it out of our heads immediately. Hell, don't even talk about it. It happened. We're 2-1. The fork is in the path, and we need to choose the right course and play loose and hungry.

When you come to a fork in the road...take it.

Mercer is a very good team that could win the SoCon, CP isn't. Mercer bounced back.. Even FCS Stats had the Mercer v Samford game as a trap game, citing, "..against dangerous Mercer" Let's not quibble.

Where is the disconnect for you? Don't you think the coaches are handling or will handle it right? Is the team leadership not up to snuff? It can't be CP's awesomeness. You can consider these questions rhetorical, just don't see it the way you do and these are indicative of the questions I ask myself when confronted with doubts.

I see Best keeping them "in the now", team leadership looks good, this is at home, first conference game and Eastern wants to make a BIG statement just like they did when Hennessey and a DII team came to town. Go Eags.

We've historically done well against Cal Poly, but we really haven't played a team that wants to test our run defense. So it's not so much a fear of Cal Poly as it is a fear of the unknown. When you add that to the probability of us having a bit of an emotional lull coming off a loss, it could be dangerous. I think Eastern should win and probably will, but if we come out and stink it up, Cal Poly might be good enough to hurt us.

The option is always tricky. I don't know about the mental aspects of the team, but have been impressed so far this season, even in the loss. Feels like a mature team.

Eag's athlete's are superior. I like the fact we have a bunch of 260-270 DL who are agile enough to handle the cut blocking option teams employ and stay on their feet. My biggest concern, is we line up all our 300 lb'ers and they keep getting gashed by the cuts blocks. Looking forward to watching the Eag's rise up and leave no doubt. :D

This game won’t be close....we’ve handled Poly very well over the years. I completely respect them but we should win this easily...

Always look forward to playing EWU. Great program and fans. Wish I could make it to the game, but will be watching on Pluto TV. Been there twice and had a great time both times.

I certainly feel Cal Poly is an underdog and deservedly so, but I think we may give the Eagles a better game than most here think.

That certainly seems to be how it’s played out over the years. I think we have the advantage at home but the reality is that most any team in the conference can beat any other on an off day.

From the EWU release on this weekends game;

However, the Mustangs have an option attack not seen by the Eagle defense on a regular basis, and that has given EWU fits in the past. In fact, the last time the two teams met in Cheney in 2015, the Eagles needed overtime and a failed 2-point conversion by Cal Poly to prevail 42-41 in a game in which Eastern trailed by 15 in the fourth quarter. Cal Poly had 503 rushing yards in that game, including 121 on 30 carries by Protheroe.

Cal Poly was a 4-7 team in 2015.

History bias isn't a part of my thoughts on the game. Have put up a good option team for example on how it is run and how it should be defended at the beginning of this thread. Fact is, Eastern has the type of athlete's and maturity to defend the option. Barring 2-3 big plays, assuming CP continues to play option no matter how much Eastern scores, this one shouldn't be close. Of course if Eastern commits 10-14 penalties and puts the rock on the ground 2 or 3 times, this one could be interesting. Can CP put that kind of pressure on the Eags to make this happen? Don't think so.

There's a reason to still play all the games, know CP will come to play and so will the Eags. May the best team win. :)

Hope the Eastern broadcast on Pluto has sound this time...
