Girls basketball’s leader? Say hello to Bay’lee Purdy of Deer Trail, who is currently at a pace of 32.2 per game. (Again, chances are you’ve heard of her. Or at least you should have.)

The junior is unquestionably one of the best players in the state, even though she plays in the oft-overlooked Class 1A. She’s also averaging 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.6 steals per game.

Bishop Machebeuf High School’s star basketball player Rebecca Howell, a 6-foot-1-inch senior who made 3,000 points in three seasons, signed a letter of intent Nov. 9 to attend the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

She signed to play Division 1 basketball at UNC next year on a full-ride scholarship.

“It’s a big deal for our entire Machebeuf community,” said Ellie Kempfe, the girls’ basketball coach.

Howell is one of few from the school to sign a letter of intent to play in Division 1, the highest level of intercollegiate athletics.
