Probably not going to happen. If we WERE to announce that, there's a good chance the Big Sky would give us the boot as soon as we called the presser. That would relegate us to indy status in the interim, and we don't have enough schedule-able schools in our area to support that.
Naw that wouldn’t be an issue if we ever leave the BSC. The MWC isn’t looking to expand (probably never will) so the point is moot.

SDHornet, I was not questioning the existence of the FB program, just the direction and long-term plan.

It sounds like you are close to the program. When I went to Sac State ('86 - Greg Knapp, Lorenzo Lynch, Rob Harrison, Mike Black, John Gesek days), it was becoming clear, at the time, that Sac was planning to compete with Pac-10 schools. It created a buzz that for a brief period propelled Sac to solid seasons in the late 80's if memory serves.

I'm just a fan who knows how and where to find info. Pre WAC shutdown I would say the long term plan was FBS. There were subtle hints at it made by Wanless and Gonzo and I think a move to the WAC was a legitimate option/possibility a few years ago. But once the MWC took in Nevada and SJSU the WAC became unappealing and lost its CA presence. The decision made to not move into the WAC when it was desperate for football members was the right one.

Going forward the vision/goal has to be to build a successful and winning program which would also need to include facility upgrades. I think the admin wants to get there, unfortunately there hasn't been a cohesive plan to do so. The strategic plan is nice and lays out a general idea of where we want to be, but now the admin needs to find a way to get there. Unfortunately when football is stuck spinning its wheels in the mud, its pretty much impossible to get people to care about Hornet football.

I'm sure that Wanless and coach Spearbeck are having private talks in the AD office that we are not aware of yet. If the team keeps playing the way they have, things will have to change.
And to think that the head coach told us that "this was our best recruiting year since I've been here".

We've got awesome student-athletes.

Just clueless coaches who can't coach at this level. Stupid mistakes and the mistakes that are being made are coachable, ie. discipline.

That's true...except at one or two glaring position(s).

The average freshperson isn't going to play immediately, Mark. Sperbeck COULD well be speaking the truth, but it'll take a year or two, barring defections (and/or a firing), for that to show. We're looking at the results of the last two or three recruiting years, and it's not looking as good as we thought.
