I'm surprised no one has mentioned coach Hill's comments to the media after the Bears poor performance in Missoula. He lashed out and called his team, a bunch of selfish human beings. I only bring this up because Collins might say something like that (although I've never heard him go the extreme of calling his players selfish human beings) and he's immediately called out on this message board. Why isn't Hill being called out?? We have players, friends, etc., on here. Let's hear it. Is it because Hill has won a conference championship (with another coach's recruits), or is it because Collins is portrayed as an angry black man? I honestly want to know.

Beardown, you might get a different viewpoint if you read Sam Mustari's story in todays Trib. I kind of thought the same thing at first but he came back and gave a lot of team credit after the MSU win.

True. I'm not saying it wasn't justified. Today's college athletes are incredibly babied. Look at the parents that come on to this board and complain, complain, complain. Meanwhile, they're son/daughter is getting a free education. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy some people have here. Collins gives credit, where credit is deserved and criticizes when it's warranted as well. Yet all we hear about is the black angry coach, who apparently throws his players under the bus on a consistent basis. :ohno: :ohno: Not one word was brought up about Hill's comments until I wrote this post almost a week later.

First of all, the Bears did play poorly at Montana and maybe deserved a tongue lashing. Do I think it reads or sounds good in the media? Nope in fact, I think it sounds childish. I also don't think it's a black or white issue. I believe when adults can't constructively criticize it shows poorly on the one doing the criticizing.

My guess, it's this behavior for both Collins and Hill that will lead to their demise as head coaches at UNC. Will it happen in the near future? Maybe not, but even coaches like Bobby Knight evevtually get fired when the right people get tired of these antics.

I just looked at the Tribune article. I'm not sure how many on this board are Ex players. From personal experience, getting publically called out for me did little to motivate me. Most people especially at this level know when they have played poorly and have plenty of self awareness regarding their performance. I believe the "calling out" had little to do with the turn around at MSU. These young men have plenty of pride and realize they didn't play well.

I still believe you get more flies with honey.

I have had mixed emotions on it but in general I'm a fan of Praising in public-critizicing in private ! Different people react to different methods. Some people need a kick in the ass and others you have to hold their hand. But who am I to say.

I've been around the game for along time. I can't believe I've never heard your statement: " praise in public critisize in private." I will be using it in the future. And to steal one more of your saying...

Go Bears
