For those on the board clamoring for Wristen to be a replacement for Collins, Football Rumor Mill has him listed as the top candidate for the vacancy at Eastern Michigan.

If it's true, that will be a big loss for CSU-P.

Some interesting names that have applied for the North Dakota job:

--Bryant Soland, (current job) sandwich artist in Grand Forks, N.D.
--Nicholas Shay, (current job) defensive coordinator at Northern Colorado.

I guess Wristen going one and done in the playoffs the last three years turned the school off. Another one and done this year but I still think he's a good coach and would like to see him replace collins. The fact that he's applying for other jobs blows the CSUP fan's theory that Wristen is content in Pueblo.

Content? No. He shouldn't ever be content, he is competitive. However, you stated he made under 60k, argued with me over the real salary, failed to respond when proof was provided that he makes over 90k, and now are wrong again. Two years have they lost the first game in the playoffs, last year they beat Indianapolis and then lost to West Texas. Both of whom are better than UNC (as are UMD, and Grand Valley, our other playoff losses). The salary at Eastern Michigan is 300k, I can see him moving for something like that, what's the actual salary at UNC that your coach gets paid to go winless (NAIA doesn't count)? I don't see Wristen leaving Pueblo for whatever it is.

Wait a second, are you trying to tell me my football team sucks? That's news to me, how dare you! I guess you put me in my place again.

Wristen is probably now realizing that before he gets a shot at even a bottom tier FBS team, he is going to have to first move to the FCS level. Plus, it really would get old beating up on the likes of New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis. Hell, the highlight of his season was beating UNC--the worst team in Division I football. I'm sure he thinks it was fun building that lil' program, but the novelty has now worn off. Especially, when he considers that given the resources of CSUP, he will continue to go one and done in the playoffs year in and year out.

In the end, we are all in the same boat. Unless you are one of the top tier D1 programs like Texas, USC and Notre Dame coaches that win will almost always try and move up the ranks. We lost Joe Glenn to Montana, we lost Boyle to CU. If Boyle ever did great at CU and has a chance to coach at Kansas he would be gone in a heartbeat.

It's the nature of the beast.

Ohhh look at that, you responded, I'm surprised.

The highlight was certainly not beating UNC, not sure why some UNC fans are trying to convince themselves of that. I've only seen 1 CSU-P fan on the forum say that, and he's a complete moron. I'd say playing (and winning) in Cowboy Stadium, winning the RMAC, setting numerous RMAC records...all trump beating a team like UNC. I expect the RMAC to raise the scholarship limit soon, CSU-P could very much fund the 36 resources at the D2 level. I'd rather be a big fish in a smaller pond than a bigger fish that still gets eaten by the smaller fish. It's almost too bad CSU-P won up in Greeley, I highly doubt UNC will schedule that game again, boy it'd have been a blast to have UNC come to Pueblo in 2014! Wristen wouldn't leave to make slightly more money, so UNC is likely not ever happening, it would take a salary like Eastern Michigan I would think. With the team he has coming back in 2014, I don't think he is too upset about continuing as the coach at CSU-P.

It may not be about pay though. Wristen might want to coach in the Big Sky, which is a lot better of a conference than the RMAC. Perhaps raising the scholarship limit will help the RMAC's image, but that remains to be seen.
The reason why we kept Joe Glenn for 16 years was because he knew he was coaching in the best D2 conference, which was the former NCC. The same might be said for several Big Sky coaches. If Collins turns out to be a good coach, he might not be swayed as easy to leave, just because it's the Big Sky.
The RMAC and CSU P better do something about scholarships and pay raises or else they'll lose coaches like Wristen, maybe not even to an FCS or FBS school. Perhaps to some school in a better conference like Grand Valley State or NW Missouri?

I have a lot of respect for what Wristen had built down at CSU-P. It has been an amazing run so far, but I'm not sure that I would be all that proud of dominating or setting records in the RMAC when your competition includes the likes of Western State, Fort Lewis, Adams State, and Colorado Mesa. The playoff record alone shows that the cake walk through the RMAC does not stack up to the real competition coming from the much stronger conferences. CSU-P is the big fish in a very very small pond, but when they try to swim in the ocean they are eaten by the sharks.

And quite frankly, if the win over UNC, a team most if not all of the board participants admit is the worst team in the FCS, isn't that big of a deal, why do you continue to come back to the board and boast about it?

Boast? I did no such thing. All I've done is correct information that has been incorrectly stated by others. For example, Wristen's salary being 60K based off an article from summer of 2008. Wristen was at 100k this past year prior to bonuses, 90k state funded, 10k non state funded. Then I corrected the same poster's statement of 3 one and done playoff appearances. If Pueblo's qb doesn't break his thumb in the first half, they beat Grand Valley, it's not as if that game was dominated by GV now that CSU-P played a team better than the RMAC. Pueblo actually looked like the better of teams in my opinion, not like their playoff loss to UMD where they just were outmatched. The scholarship limit really hurts once injuries like that occur, but like I said, have a feeling that limit will soon go away. I don't see Wristen leaving to another D2 school with the ties he has in Pueblo, a 300% increase in salary to D1 yes, but he isn't going to make a lateral move.

So again, not boasting, just correcting inaccurate information.

I am impressed by CSU-P and part of it has to do with who they play. How in the hell do they recruit? Come to Pueblo for 4 years (hell that sounds even worse than come to Greeley)? Play against Adams State and Mines? How do they do it?

As Joe Glenn said, big time is where you are at, and CSU-P is certainly making the most of it.

I don't think ThunderwolvesFan has ever been out of line and to me he has never come across as boastful so I am not sure where the aggression against him comes from.

Thanks Brian, I think most Pueblo fans know we have a little ways to go to compete for a national championship. I'm not coming here to pick on fans of a program going through some rough years, it will happen to Pueblo at some point I'm sure. I just know if a Pueblo fan was posting wrong information about UNC on our forum, I would welcome it to be corrected by someone who knew.

Glad you guys got an AD, hopefully that will be the start of turning the program around.

You have to have some big onions to be a UNC coach and be applying anywhere after this season.

It wasn't a big win for CSUP yet you continue to troll here...

Troll? You obviously don't even know what that even means if anything I said is "trolling" to you. If you want me to troll there are plenty of things that could be said to do so. Stating that I hope the hiring of an AD starts to turn your football program around is not what I would call trolling.

Big win? Yeah, it was a solid win to start the year with a ton of new faces. Biggest win? Nah.

As far as not being proud of setting RMAC records, the RMAC has been around since 1909. Setting a record for consecutive wins is pretty impressive no matter how bad the conference is currently viewed as being. That consecutive wins record was previously held by a Chadron team that shutout UNC 31-0 prior to CSU-P's dominant run in the conference.
