Per coachingsearch.com:

New Mexico State: Sources tell me that Sacramento State wide receivers / special teams coordinator Daniel DaPrato has interviewed with New Mexico State.
Not sure it would be a huge loss. Neveda's new HC just let go their WRs coach. The wolf pack WRs played well last season. Wouldn't mind seeing the wolf pack's ex WRC as the hornets new WRC.

Do we know for certain that DePrato hasn't already been given his walking papers and is trying catch on somewhere else? He'd better hope they don't have access to a DVD player.

Wouldn’t be a big loss IMO, and actually as Kadeezy suggested I wouldn’t be surprised if he was sent packing. Sperbeck can take over ST’s duties now that he has an OC, and a WR coach can be picked up somewhere. Given the lack of improvement by the WR’s as the season unfolded, a new coach at that position could do some good.

Pretty sure he wasn't dismissed from Sac. In my opinion he has been an asset to the program, and decent recruiter. I thought the ST and WR actually played better and were more productive than the prior season, even with less experienced players.

The whole job interview thing is just part of the "Coaching Carousel" this time of the year. Just like any other business you only bring in people that have higher goals....So if DePrato was asked to come in to a better job and opportunity for him...then I wish him nothing but the best. If he stays, I still expect our ST and WR to get better. :thumb:

Anyone remember where two of our young coaches over the last 2 seasons that went on to improve their careers? Here you go:

Klayton Adams (tight ends), Univ of Colorado
Bush Hamdan (WR) - Arkansas State

P.S. I don't know the UNR WR coach, but their stats at that position were almost identical to ours...in fact we had 24 TD's over 11 games vs 13. They avg 243 and we avg 241 a game...Specials teams were almost identical as well...crazy

A lot more goes into special teams then most people think. Its not as simple as simply saying "He can do it!" IMO a pure ST coach has more work to do then a pure WR coach. In STs you are pulling players from every facet of the team and putting them together onto multiple different teams.

In that case I can’t think of anyone else on the coaching staff that should have a better understanding about the players from every facet than Sperbeck.

Hey don't forget Andy Avalos Boise State

Robby Case - New Mexico State GA.

SD and Oh23 you are both right...they slipped my mind. Jst shows that the FCS level is really just a stepping stone. Every year coaches move to whatever provides them the opportunity to advance. Could you imagine if the NCAA allowed the players to do the same... :coffee:

I would really love to see the NCAA either lighten up on the transfer rules for FB and basketball or the Universities come together and force a salary cap and set contract term for coaches....JMO

Who was that? Humboldt, what is he coaching up there? What is the word with Daprato since New Mexico State doesn't know who there HC is? Probably staying now

I think Fred Kelley went to Humboldt as a full time OL coach. Here is the bio we have on Hornetsports' archive section:

http://www.hornetsports.com/sports/football/coach/bio.asp?COACH_ID=209

NMSU head coach is interviewing for a DB coach spot for the Jacksonville Jags. I doubt DePrato leaves now even if he was offered a spot, but who knows. NMSU is entering FBS Indy hell so I imagine a few other coaches are probably looking to jump ship as well.

De Wayne Walker left NMSU for the Jags. Talk about a ship without a rudder, no head coach, no conference, no hope, less than two weeks before LOI day. A coach or recruit would have to be out of their mind to get involved in that mess.
