WSU at NAU: Game Thread

hughey play of the game! stevey morrison would have been proud of that shot. back in 2003 morrison hit a shot just before the buzzer, a 3, for us to win. that was the 16-0 year.

we should all be excited for the season after that game!

skeeter, we actaully will have some home games this yr? lol

Man what a game, even when we had the 16 point lead I knew NAU would come raging back, and they did during the game I was kinda critisizing Hughey, he seemed to be a little wild going inside and he should have passed that fast break to Mahoney instead of getting served. However it was because of Hughey Weber returns to Ogden with a win, with his luckily clutch shot. He is trying really hard to vill the void left by Lillard, sometimes too hard but you cant really fault him for that.

Having said that it was a Very good win, this year in the Big Sky is going to be very hard to get road wins for anbody vs anybody.

Lets take our momentum into our first conf home games vs Sac and ISU

if we can just manage to win all our home games we will be in good contention.

Yep, we need, no HAVE TO win all our conf home games, and pick up a couple road wins like tonight in the process.

Man its going to be strange seeing the Wildcats back at home.

Weber beat an 8 man team out there tonight. That was as one sided as I have seen in a long, long time. It was incredible how they all kept thier composure in the face of some of those, many, many calls that, if not totally questionable, were not consistant on both ends of the court. Evan the home announcers couldn't believe many of those calls. They just chalked it up to life on the road in the Big Sky. I could stomach it a lot better if we could get that same kind of favorable treatment at home. However, because the league management is at our home games most of the time, officials tend to call a much fairer game at our place.

Thats all anybody can say about that, reffing in the Big Sky sucks, its hard to know it but not be able to do anything about it. Weber did get away with stuff, I did see a few moving screens not called, but there is not a whole lot anybody can do about it.

The one call that made me mad the most was when that # 20 for NAU ran Fulton over and one ref called a charge only to have another ref come in and say it was a blocking foul. Fulton had position and got ran over and they called the defensive foul. oh well the call will usually go to the home team.

The worse part about Big Sky reffing is that it is very inconsistant, every game is reffed different, the players have NO IDEA what to expect, some refs will let them play and some refs like the ones in the Sac EWU will call 64 fouls.

Having said that NAU played tough, Cameron Jones is a beast, and so is that other gaurd who's name escapes me at the moment, NAU will be very tough to beat at the Dee

Caught bits and pieces of the first half. Only caught the last five minutes of the second half on tivo. Lousy work getting in the way of what's really important.

Frustrating's the only word that comes to my mind. WSU made plays when they needed to. NAU played well but, just like at Montana and Montana State, didn't make enough plays to win. It's tought to come back from multiple 15-25 point deficits and win. 3 losses after 4 conference games is quite the hole to dig out of. I'm setting my hopes to just making the conference tourney at this point. Cameron Jones can't continue to do it all on his own either.

But Weber State gets props for getting the precious conference road win. Your bigs - Bullinger and Morris in particular - should be the talk of the game even though Hughey hit that ridiculous three that was the game winner.

Some of those charging calls were pretty bad. The one on Fulton in particular. One of the reasons why I like listening to Mitch Strohman announce games is he wants the Jacks to win and is a homer in that manner but will admit when calls were blown even if they were beneficial to NAU.

Re: reffing. Just reminds yourselves that it could always get worse. Eric Curry could get booted from the MWC or WAC or wherever he is now and return to the Big Sky Conference. Think about that for a minute. A friend of mine used to ref Big Sky football games and does Pac-10 games now. It's a no win job regardless of how meticulous and objective one is.

I dont know how familiar any of you are with a show called Beast Wars Transformers, but during the game someone emailed Mitch and said "Cameron Jones has been in Beast mode all season long", I looked at my dad and said "Well lets just hope he doesn't Maximise", my dad started laughing. if your familiar with the tv show you'd get it.

What I really liked about Jones was that he didn't seem to force anything. He only took one or two bad shots the whole game. He passed a few times when I thought he should have taken the shot. He is the glue that is holding that team together right now. Great game.
