WSU at SUU: Game Thread

"I can see why the locals don't pay money to watch them."

Having to watch Roger Reid coach is enough not to go. I don't think he is a bad coach from a strategy point of view (although I think he is an awful recruiter) but it is really grating to watch him on the sideline. Boylen takes a distant second, but he is almost impossible to stomach as well. I won't pay money to watch guys who are complete jerks and I think both of those guys have a negative affect on ticket sales.

Now Coach Rahe, really fun to watch him build his program and work the sideline. Spends his time coaching his kids and complains at appropriate times, and with appropriate emotion -- doesn't spend the bulk of the game harassing officials (see the two coaches mentioned above). Perhaps he has a little more respect given his wife is an NCAA women's referee.

I thought it was funny every time Dutch called the Thunderbirds Southern Utah State

Lillard was as great as always, but how about Fulton and the Mahoner? Mahoney was a beast last night and if Fulton keeps playing like that, look out. I am most impressed with Byron Fulton.

A nice win vs an instate rival, seemed the refs were bad, but at least this time they were bad for both sides, its time to take it to a struggling Tulsa squad. Tulsa has lost 3 in a row to Arkansas Little Rock, Oklahoma State and Princeton.

Tulsa's on a 3 game losing streak, We are on a 3 game winning streak.

Too many easy baskets.

I agree, something has to change with our defense! 71 points to SUU is not good defense. And all the fouls! I believe we are committing fouls because we aren't focused on defensive position with the proper intensity and on the balls of our feet! So... we get a step behind and have to foul to stop people. And if we don't foul, easy baskets. Offensively, we have scored enough points to win all our games but what, 44 free throws to Utah?

It's all in the perspective of how you view the games....
CatFan says there is an issue with number of fouls and defensive position. At Southern Utah, I saw our post players "bodying" the 6'11" Hodgson and 6'9" Massey to get them off the block and out of a comfortable shooting position. Both SU players ended the game with no points, and only 3 rebounds between them. Yes, there were some fouls called, but this changed how SU had to score.

I give up it to the Weber coaches to get their guys ready and to execute. If a player isn't doing what the coaches expect, he takes a seat. That is one of the joys of having a team that has a strong bench.
